Opened one last night. Super smooth, not boozy at all. But still plenty of bourbon and oak. Great coffee aroma in the nose and big coffee flavor as well.

I'm dying to crack one open after hearing this. I got quite excited when I had the realization that it was 2015 Morning Bell as the base beer.

I was extremely glad it wasn't when I had it. I'm not the biggest fan of BA beers, especially the boozy ones

BTW I do not know if it was discussed here but I was told by a Kane bartender that the coffee addition to Morning Bell was different this year. Last year they used cold brew made by Rook, this year they literally added ground coffee in little pouches (not unlike the "flavor bombs" described in the Cafe Y Churro youtube video). Interesting.

I like what they did this year much better than last year.

Personally I remember thinking last year's was one of the best coffee beers I'd ever had - and this year was the same. As to specific differences, tough to recall. I had a SMS and it was a boozy mess compared to Morning Bell last year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm essentially saying last year to me was an 8 and this year was a 9... Something about it this year was better to me and I guess that explains it.

Woah. That makes so much sense to me now. I will admit I was let down by 2016 morning bell because IMO although the coffee flavor was more prominent it was not as clean and expresso forward tasting as 2015. Thanks for that little bit of info man!

I had the 2016 on draft recently and found the coffee to be more, abrupt. What I loved about the beer is that big coffee flavor without any of the harshness. The previous versions were better for me.

I definitely feel like this year's is more . . . aggressive, perhaps?

It's funny because I thought Port Omna Coffee was way more aggressively "coffee" to me, like it crossed the line of beer and over into coffee. More beer coffee than coffee beer.

So get your conspiracy hats on, have an interesting story from the past Saturday. It involves the fact that in an uncanny prescient moment Saturday morning people joked about BBA Morning Bell, then it happened same day.

My wife was speaking with the employee who was operating the ID check/door on our way out of Kane Saturday while I was taking a final bathroom break before leaving. My wife apparently said something to the effect of, "great release, busy day, but you guys handled it awesome." The employee told her that the employees had no idea until that morning that it was even happening (and apparently that's the case with all Kane silent releases). BUT there were customers who showed up at opening that seemed to know.

The employee's theory was that the UPS guy spilled the beans. Other than Kane staff, no one else was in the building the day they bottled other than the UPS guy who apparently saw the bottles and tipped off family/friends that it may happen that weekend.

So, which one of you is the UPS guy?

I guess it's a possibility. I would also assume its likely Kane employees would tell close friends/relatives that they have bottle it. Word travels quick, even if it's to an outlet you believe wouldn't spread word.
