With one brown paper bag, Kane has ruined Christmas. Wow.

    From Kane:

Regarding the pre-sale this morning: we've spoken with Brown Paper Ticket several times and there was no reported glitches or problems with the site. We understand some of you are reporting that you experienced problems and we passed that on to them and they have their development team looking in to it. For those unfamiliar with BPT, it is used by a number of breweries for pre-sales with no issues—which is why we went with them.

BPT ticket is telling us that there were over 14,000 hits to the page around noon and it just sold-out quickly. Our preliminary review of the transaction list didn't reveal anything questionable about the transactions that were completed.

We share your frustration. There is no perfect way to release these beers. We continue to work to find better ways and believe this was the best option given the physical limitation of our brewery space, building capacity and parking. We will continue to increase our production of these beers as capacity allows. This year's pre-sale alone was nearly 4,000 bottles, a considerable increase from last year's total, with lower limits. I know this doesn't help those that were shut-out but it at least sheds some light on the situation

And there you go. 4,000/8 pack is 500 people. With 14,000 hits, that's a 3.5% chance of getting the 8 pack. Even if the limit was a 4pk, then your chance is only 7.1% with 14,000 hits. Demand is huge!!!!

Thanks for sharing this info Kane! I would have never guessed 14,000 hits!

I think this was done as fairly as possible considering last years debacle. If you got bottles this year as I did, you were probably happy with the system. If you got shut out, then you probably think that it was rigged, or something to that extent. I for one will be picking up my allotment on Sunday, and sharing them with my friends. After all, that is what this is about. Sharing great beer with good friends. Sure it sucks that people didn't get any but no release is ever perfect unless there is enough for everybody. Kane doesn't have the physical space to store enough barrels for everyone to be happy. Either go back on Sunday and try to get some extra bottles, or go share one of the other great 1000 beers out there with some friends.

14k hits is impressive any which way you look at it. Explanation seems simple, and straightforward economics — supply vs. demand in a free market economy. The demand is clearly present, and we can only hope that it will in turn, equivocate to more of a supply.

Just think for a second about the prospect of that large a crowd showing up. Now granted, there were people with multiple devices trying to log on and some logging on who would not have otherwise driven to Kane. But divide it by say 10 and you still had 1400 people lining up. Divide by 5 and you have nearly 3000 people lining up. And I am sure there were some people who were unable to log on at noon who would have driven up as well.

Just shows you the demand for this release and the fact that majority of people any way were not going to be happy with end result.

I would have liked to see a magic Kane wheel and you step up and give it a spin to decide the single bottle you get. Just kidding but that would be fun to see what variant or base version you receive

Is the line for picking up that bad? I can't imagine everyone showing up at 8 am waiting to pick up an allotment. The day of sales I can understand but I have to think the pick up line will flow much quicker. It's have an ID ready take your allotment and leave. We don't have to pay again

14,000 hits, not sure if they mean individual users though, the amount of us that refreshed at least 5-10 times minimum at noon, probably makes that number a little lower.

comp / phones same time too. ppl definitely did that. I wish I did. don't have a laptop at the moment. but connection on my phone wireless is great. I got in 4x. but crashed when I clicked to buy and sold out all 4. I hope they announce how many bottles and limits. if this was a sizable amount of the batch and they have 2+, I may not even bother.

I'd like to know this as well. Double dippers are going to have an adverse affect on this. I wish they would check IDs prior to releasing walk up bottles.

I missed it too, o well

I actually kept trying like 5-10 minutes after and it gave me mini heart attacks, because about twice, there was saying there was some available and to chose to add it to my cart. But when i did so, it came back saying i added what was unavailable haha.

All in all, meh, it stinks I wont be getting any this year, but hey, theres so much awesome beer out there, missing out on just one isnt too big a deal.

I managed to get my bottles right at 12. Just have to time those refreshes right, and you have a (small) chance to luck out. Similar to all Lost Abbey releases.

Wow, those FB post are priceless. Entertaining as they are it really is disheartening to see the way people react to this. I'm sorry if I'm hurting feelings, but honestly people, there are so many more important things in the world than not getting a beer. Is this what craft beer has come to? I get shut out of a bottle release so I throw a tantrum? Add this to the shady behavior of others who hoard/mule/etc. and it just becomes a shit show. These bottle releases are the craft beer version of those Walmart Black Friday videos on YouTube.

My only question is how hasn't Kane put out what they are releasing Sunday in terms of bottle numbers, unless I missed this completely. They have to know what they sold today and what is available.
