What's the point? Multiple entries get DQ'd.

people will be lining up every saturday morning until those are released (if ever).

i lucked out by living 15 minutes away last year and got a DB ANTEAD after getting shut out of lottery and online sale.

Yeah but as has been mentioned in this thread, people are having their relatives, friends, employees, secretaries, neighbors, mistresses register for them as well. At $20/pop it would eliminate a lot of that.

I am not complaining about how they're doing it by the way, just striking up conversation on other ways it could be done.

If I win, I promise to share with everyone here.

EDIT tbh I want the Teku more than anything else

Now I see your point. From my perspective, everyone I know drinks beer, so to have them register would mean they would want to keep it, not just hand it over to me. Lol...

Its an intriguing idea for sure. Agree with the above that $5 a pop would probably do it as well.

I think we can all agree that we'll never all agree on one perfect release method. After last year's release the consensus was this would likely be the most fair method of release. To address a few recurring concerns I see popping up here:

    1. This opens it up to people all over the country - yes it does, but those people have to be able to travel to NJ during a 2 day window on short notice, oh and they still have to be randomly selected to win the lottery in order to even bother doing so. The people who successfully got through last year's BPT sale were overwhelmingly from NJ, and if you extend that to neighboring states, it was something like 92% of people who got ANTEAD were at least reasonably local. The short notice and short pickup window naturally favor people who can get here easily.

    2. People are having their wives, grandmothers and secretaries sign up for them - that's fine as long as your wife, grandma or secretary is the one who shows up with their ID that matches their winning entry to pickup bottles. If you can mobilize a legion of your relatives and acquaintances to enter for you AND keep their calendars open for April 8th or 9th to come in person to pick up for you in the event you're selected, well...

would be interesting to see how many entries you get @glennl also, any chance you can divulge total allotments up for grab's through the lotto? I'm assuming more then 2k and less the 5k

Kane would get absolutely destroyed for charging $20 for the chance to buy beer. Would it reduce the number of people registering? Sure, but it wouldn't actually benefit anyone. Just lots of pissed off people who wasted $20, and got nothing to show for it if they lost the lottery. And a few thousand people who paid an extra $20 for their beer. Lose lose in my book

I would have been fine with a refundable fee if you didn't get pick or a fee that went towards the purchase with you getting picked. Would have no issue

Interesting thought. More of a "deposit" if you won and didn't pick up. Maybe even a donation to a local charity.

To make the fee refundable would defang it's potential to discourage gaming of the lottery system. The whole point being people would likely not have 100 friends/relatives/employees enter for them if they had to spend $20. per person. If you refund the money to non winners it would not discourage the gaming as there's nothing to lose.

Then what would be the point?

Guys we dont need more expenses in beer. 5 dollar refundable fee is not going to deter anyone.

Before I say what I think, I will admit that there is no perfect system.

The only issue I see with this style of release are the no shows. Even if I maybe have a slight chance of possibly being able to get to Kane, I might as well enter because there are absolutely no repercussions if I can't make it. I can just get my money back and someone else who would've won ends up not winning. Really my only problem with this system.

Is $30 (after fees and taxes) a 750 ml BA stout the new standard now. I'm not saying I won't pay it (same with assassin if I had the chance), or that a price increase is not okay wondering what warranted the 50% price increase.

I would think that the method of having Aunts, cousins, sisters, parents, secretaries enter for you would keep more beer local. My mom would be fine taking the ride from Howell to pick up beer for me. It would be a lot more difficult to put mom on plane and fly her here from Minnesota.

The only system I am totally for is one that allows me to purchase as much as I want and splits the rest among other people. Since that is never going to happen, this is the best way to do it.

(Although, I am still in favor of a membership program like Bruery's Societies)

Yes pretty much. BA Stouts in 750s basically cost 25-30 and not just the good ones like ANTEAD, the shitty ones too.

Taking a non-refundable deposit may meet the definition of an illegal lottery.

The New York Marathon (I know, different state, but still) was successfully sued
because they charged an $11 non-refundable fee to enter the lottery to get into the race.
The lawsuit claimed only the state can run chance-based lotteries. It was settled, but
    the NYRR admitted no wrongdoing.

So, if there's a chance at legal action, probably best not to do it.

I respectfully disagree and think this is one of the worst ways to do it. Allows the mules to recruit everyone they know and hoard a ton of bottles. I know there is no perfect way, and this certainly isn't the worst, but I have a feeling we'll be seeing some Instagram pictures of people with 50+ bottles.
