Unless we have numbers of the release versus prior years we can't say supply vs demand. Even last year regular ANTEAD didn't sell out release day. Almost gone, they changed the limits down to 4 at some point. But while I expect more people to be there this year. If they indeed give a 1-2 week window of the release date, more people will travel. So Im just saying if 1460 is still hanging in there with 6 bottle pp limit, and the rumors that ANTEAD will see more production this year, I hope less people are shut out. The variants that is a whole other topic. Again, not saying 4 weeks later regular ANTEAD will still be on the weekly tap list FB post, but that a higher production will mean more people will get bottles.

I definitely think the Anniversary beers are underrated. I haven't tried 1460 yet, but 1095 was tremendous.

We do know that the ANTEAD yield this year or next year or whenever it's released will be around 6,000 bottles. No speculation here, they made about 2x as much as last year (3,000 bottles). So you can figure the rest out by playing with the limits. If there are 800 bottles each of 3 variants, and 3600 bottles of regular, Limit of 2 of each per person (as has been mentioned in passing by multiple Kane employees) that let's 400 people get all bottles (full shit show). Then I would guess limits on regular go to 4 or 6 PP so another 450-700 people could get the max of regular.

Remember Kane wants to sell out the day of any given release. Them having Fall Saints and 1460 bottles sitting around isn't as good for their business as selling all the bottles. It is good for their customers however, which has value, but they would rather have the $$ all things being equal to put back into the business.

1460 are finally gone. I agree they want to sell out asap, but also having product to met demand isn't a bad thing either.

Tried both Hop Labs and that Azacca Pale ale might be their best one yet. I thought it was amazing.

What are their hours for Wednesday? I don't have Facebook and can't see it. Want to grab another azacca growler for Thanksgiving.

Perhaps I shouldn't post this question in a Kane thread...but...

...thinking about a future trip next Summer....if you only had time to visit either Kane or Carton on a Saturday afternoon in Summer, which would you choose and why? We're lovers of hoppy and sour beers, with roasty stouts and porters a distant but still loved third. And have a well behaved eight year old who is a veteran of brewery stops.

    Thanks for the input!

I'd go for Kane since they have the larger space and more offerings on tap. As @Esic55 wrote, you can't go wrong with either but I suggest Kane if you only go to one because Carton's tasting room is basically the quaint second level of an old school supplies building and the summer crew can get fierce in its devotion making for a tight crowd.

Also carton you don't get full beers, just samples of what's on tap. At Kane you get full beers and like others stated the room is much bigger with tables and barrel high tops. My vote is for Kane.

Im with everyone else. You cant really go wrong with either. If you love hoppy beers i would have to go with Kane. Their hop lab series was on fire this past summer. There was a new hop lab beer ever week and for hop heads you cant beat it. Sours, you arent really going to get much from either. Stouts and portes hands down Kane. If you hit the right weekend you might land Morning Bell, Sunday Brunch or Mexican Brunch, all world class Porters. Space is much larger and more comfortable in my opinion.

By no means is this a negative review on Carton, they are close enough you can do both, but I would go to Carton first and then spend most of your time at Kane.

    • Mexican Brunch was late spring/early summer. Regardless, Carton/Kane will be a different beast next summer...who knows what crazy shit will be pouring

    • Granted small, but I love Carton's homey environment: couch. Then again, perhaps there will be a new spot next year/expansion?

    • You'll get biases by posting in a Kane thread...Carton IDIPA

So this is what you do: they are too close not to hit both on a visit. You hang out at Kane since, as others have said, it's really spacey and easy to sit with a kid. Plus, great flights or full glasses, based on your preferences. You either stop by Carton before or after and just buy the inevitable selection of cans they always have available and bolt. Too crowded to hang out there, especially with a kid. As an example, just today I stopped by Carton and bought six different beers they had available in cans. Did not bother going up to the tasting room. I was in and out in two minutes.

Thanks for all of your great replies! It really sounds like you can't go wrong with either.

Plan would be to hit the beach for a good chunk of the afternoon, coming from DC area...so hitting Kane first at noon then heading further north...the 5pm Carton closing time almost certainly necessitates stopping there BFORE going to the beach...which would mean not getting to a beach until likely sometime well later than desired. So probably best to limit it to one...maybe drinking at Kane and grabbing some to go at Carton like Stiffington suggested. Heading toward NYC in the evening and next day for the OTHER HALF of the trip, but that's a different thread! (Hence the geographic need to hit Kane first before Carton, since coming from DC and heading to NYC (hmmm maybe i should consider going to NYC first, then a beach day at the end, since going to Carton first, then beach, then Kane seems like a better route in terms of hours...)

In an ideal world for me, Kane would open before 12, and Carton would close well after 5 (too bad they don't close at 7 like Kane...long time away, maybe hours will expand)

The Citra Pale Ale is a killer. Hopefully the rumors are correct and we will see this more often going forward.
