Okay, down to the last 3 in the box- the biggies. Stout-level darkness into the tulip goes this one. Just a little head with quickly fading lace. Scents like oaky molasses, raisiny roasted malts, alcoholic chocolaty molasses- it smells sticky thicky. Flavors of bourbony oak and all the other pleasant stuff my nose picked up. Earthy and syrupy in a good way. Each sip reveals another fantastic taste. Big and bold, Electric Prunes. Yes, I may have had too much to dream last night. What a wonderful experience this beer was, one of the best beers I have ever had. Thank you Kane.

As it isn’t a shelf beer and the people who have access to it are generally beer aficionados on this site, I suspect the ratings will hold high.

Pours dark brown with moderate carbonation. Big aroma of dried fruit & bourbon. First sip is dried fruit & figs. The more you drink you get caramel, toffee, brown sugar & bourbon barrel. I love barleywines & this is one of the best I’ve ever had. Glad I saved it to end my Extreme Beer Box. Outstanding!

This was, without question, my most anticipated beer of the entire box.

    It's Kane.

    It's a massive blended barleywine.

Both barleywines were aged for nearly 3 years in a total of 6 different liquors (including whiskey, rye, bourbon, and brandy).

I expected to clock in -rDev anyway, as it's got a sky-high rating right now (17 ratings in) ... and I was wrong.

This is the first beer to crack my personal top 10 in 363 days (Cigar City's Primordial Unity, a BBA imperial stout, was the last). I would be shocked if any other beer from 2022 unseats it from the top 10.

Agreed…what you said! Leans to the English side, loads of jammy-ish stone fruits, subtle cut from the spirits and barrels. Has a mellow bitter stout-like middle, reminding me of MOAS, but not as prevalent. The brighter notes keep balance, and are not as “spicy” as I remember B5K.

OK, so really had intended to save this one till last, but every time I opened the beer fridge I swear it winked at me. So I didn't quite make it halfway through the Box before succumbing to that come-hitherness.....
And in retrospect, what on earth was I waiting for??? Double Double Cask is just spectacular! I coulda got run over by a bus and never had a chance to enjoy this incredible bit of breweriana mastery.
Seriously, probably one of my top ten beers ever. And I'm not that much of a Barleywine fan. Wish they'd put a 4-pack in the Box.

Wow - this is one is approaching the Top 250 in no time and is currently a #5 American Barleywine. Well deserved. Although, I see that a #6 American Barleywine is #147 overall. @Todd how does that work? Shouldn't #5 Barleywine be higher in the Top 250 than #6? I've seen this before with other styles.

Now this is an extreme beer. Chocolate and coffee with a hint of butterscotch and nuttiness. A slight sweetness on the finish.

Definitely one of my favorites in the box so far. Sort of reminds me of the Anniversary series beers from Firestone Walker. While I know it's all barleywine here, the ability to blend the different casks and get layers of flavors while keeping it smooth is awesome. It's got a big body for sure, so couldn't see having more than 1 every once in awhile, but a standout to me.

Just started drinking. OMG. This goes toe-to-toe with favorite beers of mine like North Coast barrel-aged Old Stock, Bourbon County Brand Stout, Uinta Labyrinth... lovely, huge, balanced, nuanced.

Please let me buy this in four-packs :slight_frown:

#7 out of box. By now, I’ve tasted a good few from the box which certainly represent a wide variety of d flavors. To some extent, my opinions are predefine by the style and this is no exception. From growing up with the thekeston old peculiar (considered a barley wine by locals), my passion has always been for Barleywines. It was predestined that I would love this and Kane did not disappoint. Number 2 out of 7 so far.
