I live in Indiana and I have friend that is going to send me some beers as part of a trade. Any recommendations on what I should request from Kansas that we don't get in Indiana or any great local Kansas brewery recommendations? I'm not sure what is available or not in Wichita. Cheers!

Of course Boulevard is really good. Tank 7, The Sixth Glass and Long Strange Triple are great. Also, Blind Tiger Brewery out of Topeka is nice.

Tallgrass, Free State and Defiance. In Wichita they get some good Oklahoma brews. Sadly, most KS breweries do not bottle or can yet.

Where in Kansas are we talking?

Tallgrass and Free State are probably the best Kansas-specific breweries. For specific recos...

    Tallgrass:
    Ethos IPA
    Halcyon Wheat
    8-Bit Pale Ale
    Velvet Rooster Tripel
    Buffalo Sweat Milk Stout

    Free State:
    Stormchaser IPA
    Cloud Hopper DIPA
    Iron Man Imperial Stout
    Copperhead Pale Ale
    Ad Astra Altbier

Unfortunately, the best from each of these breweries are draft only--Old Backus Barleywine for Free State and there is a imperial Russian stout and a gueuze made by Tallgrass that are both stellar.

Sadly, the OP mentioned Wichita so those "draft only" ones are out. Old Backus is fantastic. I would love a gueuze from Tallgrass.

Besides what has been mentioned, you should look at seekabrew.com to compare distributions. Odell, Deschutes, Oskar Blues, and Avery are some of the notable ones I saw with a quick glance.

We get Boulevard and Oskar Blues in Indy. Pretty sure we get a good bit of Deschutes. Will have to double check the link provided! Thank you!

The Tallgrass geuze thing is a joke? That or I'm really behind the times.

News to me as well but there are check-ins on untappd and a listing on that other site. Wish they didn't call it a gueuze though.

Let's just hope they start making some killer wild ales, lambic inspired or not.

Well, it's not a joke, but not being aware of it doesn't mean you're behind. I only found out about it because they were pouring it at the Boulevardia Taps & Tastes. I would've added it to this site, but as a rule, I don't like to add beers I'm not going to rate/review, and I tend to avoid rating/reviewing beers that I have in 2 oz increments at festivals. Well, I tend to avoid it on this site anyway, where I take my scores a little more seriously. On Untappd, I'll rate pretty much everything.

At the table when I got my pour, I asked the brewer when they were going to start canning it, and he laughed and avoided my question, which I took to mean "we're not". :slight_frown:

Hopefully I can check it out at that new tasting room they're building in KC.

Tallgrass will be brewing more sour beers as their new facility gets up and running, heard from a very reliable source. And yes, they have had a "gueze" at special events before but haven't had it myself. Anyone know if it was any good?

I second this. Also side note, I like the Logboat pic. From columbia or did you just stop by?

I have lived in CoMo for the past 13 years or so. It's a great city with a growing beer culture.

Blind Tiger is good. Their wheat beers have won awards, but I've always preferred their IPAs. They did one with Galaxy Hops that was absolutely fantastic.

Blind Tiger had some sours on last week. It'd be great if we see more of those.
