try not to beat me up too much. Was there last weekend. Very good flight of mostly ipas. Good food. Place was packed.
Well, they do sell more in their taproom than any other brewery in Texas, so it doesn't surprise me it was packed.
Their beer was great pre-buy out. While I have not bought any of their beer post-buy out, I have had it courtesy of others. It was still great. My boycott of Karbach has nothing to do with beer quality - with access to ABI's resources, I'm sure it will remain constant or improve, if change at all. My boycott of Karbach is my vote with my wallet against ABI's business practices. That said - drink whatever you like. That's the beauty of beer. And America.
I've been to Karbach a few times. The first time was before the buyout. The second time was post. The third time was just to eat. I should preface this by saying that I rarely want to drink IPAs, and even more rarely have a desire to drink other strong beers. The vast majority of the time I just want lower abv more balanced beers. The first time was really good. Had a lot of great beers. Then the second time I went they only had one beer on their tap list that wasn't a double IPA or one of their barrel aged big beers. Then the third time the only one I saw was their radler which I don't care for but as I said earlier I wasn't there to drink. I assume after the buyout most of their basic beers were going out to the newly expanded distribution footprint.
I still enjoy a Staycation every now and then. I do notice the FUN and Hellfighter series staying on shelves a lot longer.
Damn, this is some of the most respectful forums on Karbach I have ever seen in a while. Weirdly, I am proud of everyone..
I do go there for lunch periodically, but in terms of buying their beer on shelves - Im a no-go. And truthfully it has more to do with there just being more/better options also on shelves and less to do with them being bought out (though, that is still considered when I make a purchasing decision).
Rodeo Clown, my go to beer at wine bars or anyplace that doesn't watch dates on it's stock. If it is fresh it is a solid DIPA, if it is old, a pretty good barleywine. It ages well. I don't buy much Karbach, before or after the ABI purchase. Too many good solid beers out there, and their IPA's have never really floated my boat. I do have to say the Blood Orange will be going to Florida with me. Solid Radler, and my girls love it.
