I was wondering has anyone drank this recently and what would it take to get one, if u had one. thanks in advance! cheers dan
I had one in early June and it was horrible...drain-pour. Not sure if it was a bad bottle or what, but everyone thought exactly the same.
Wasn't my bottle but I know where it came from and that person has a proper cellar. I probably wouldn't take the chance to trade for one based on that experience, but I guess you could always roll the dice.
I too had the same 2007 Sean did and it was one of the few drain pours of the night. Not good at all.
Out of curiosity, what had it morphed into? There wasn't infection issues with that batch, correct? Oxidization?
No infection...my notes say vegetal & perfume notes with evident oxidization...boy does that sound tasty!
The brewer himself prefers a year or two. Either way, 5 years is an awful long time to age a delicate stout like Kate.
Had an 07 about a year and a half ago. Got it when it was just release and aged it properly. It was not a drain pour, but it was a huge let down compared to every other stout we tasted ( some BA some not ). I had the chance to try a fresh bottle not too much later and realized that dissapointment is how Kate is supposed to taste.
Agreed, it was way done with at this point. However, I'm just not a huge fan of KtG and I've never really been impressed with it much at all. It's decent, but not world-class. I've had it aged, fresh, etc...I think I've had every year besides 2010.
