I'm interested in getting a bottle of KBBS to celebrate the birth of my daughter with some friends.

Thinking of throwing out this 5:1 trade offer:
    - 2013 Prop
    - West Ashley (latest)
    - 2x BAVSS
    - Abraxas

Would that be enough? Is it worth it? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I literally can't even imagine giving up that much awesome beer for a single 12oz bottle, no matter how good it may be. Is it worth it? That's entirely up to you, but for me, not a chance on this earth.

As far as if it will get done with that... who knows at this point.

I disagree. Overall, barring the occasional Herbaceous cluster fuck, beer trading is awesome.

Low count, high demand bottles, will trade high, sometimes ridiculously high. If it's too high just don't make the trade & focus on trades you're interested in pursuing.

I will most likely never have KBBS. Ditto Ann, Isabelle Proximus, Yellow Bus, Don Quixote, M, Dirty Horse or VB Assassin. (And Yahweh alone knows how many others)

BUT, thanks to trading I've had GM, BT, MW, CR, SARA, Grimm Vicar, MC & variants, Fuzzy, multiple Eclipse, Prop, De Garde, Upland, Pizza Boy, Jester King, RR PtE & sours, HT, Hommage, BVDL, Wicked Weed, HF, CCB, Sexual Chocolate etc.

I've also gotten to know some of the nicest & most interesting people. On numerous occasions, trading has proven how generous & helpful this community is.

Trading might highlight the many beers I can't get my greedy little paws on, but overall trading has been exceptionally good to me. I'm glad I broke through my reservations & reluctance to try it. I've traded with people I'd literally consider donating a kidney to & I don't make that statement lightly.

No dog even close to being in this fight, but some of the fts for KBBS I've seen posted and not getting done is astounding. $250+ worth of great beer can get crickets. Kinda sad where we are right now, I'd love to see more simple trades for stuff that's reasonable.

Since its only 12oz I hope you don't have a ton of friends to share with. I'd say the beers you are offering would work just as well for a celebration

There's just not enough bottles of this made to satisfy every beer geek's appetite and foolhardiness to put up a small treasure trove of beer to get it. Maybe it's just foolishness at this point.... wait til the next big bold beer is released from an unknown brewery and strike while the iron's hot. The TG stout for reasonable trade ship has sailed long ago.

name a hoppy offering that Alesmith has put out...ever...that's anywhere near the league of TG's hoppy beers.

Just my opinion here.... I found KBBS to be exponentially better than BAVSS ( but is KBBS worth what it trades for? No it's not)... and I would also consider Pseudosue and Sosus to be much, much better than what "sits on shelves"....guess it depends on what your shelf beer are thought...and again... just my two cents...

wait, what?! there's more than hoppy beer in the beer world?! no fucking way!!

Toppling Goliath, to many, does 2 types of beer extremely well: stouts & hoppy beer. I think you're pretty far off base saying things like King Sue & Sosus are "no better than what sits on shelves," but hey, to each their own.

As someone who had KBBS '14 and BAVSS back to back (1 week apart), I thought BAVSS came very close to KBBS in nearly every aspect: mouthfeel, aroma, down to the taste of coffee and perfect sweetness (maple vs. condensed milk). I absolutely LOVED them both. One of the friends who was at both shared exclaimed "KBBS junior!" when he tried BAVSS. KBBS still has the edge on being ever slightly deeper in term of flavorfulness overall, but I'm just incredibly happy to find a beer that comes so close to KBBS that isn't too difficult to trade for.

1000% agree with this. To really enjoy KBBS you will need a 3-4oz pour minimum, possible down to 2oz to accommodate 6 people, but that's really no fun. I'd open all the beers you are considering trading and you will "wow" your friend so much more...unless you have an equally impressive set to open along with KBBS.

TG is anything but overhyped. They consistently deliver delicious brews. I don't think I have been disappointed by anything they have made and I've been lucky enough to try most of their offerings. Alesmith is also a great brewery. I've never had BAVSS but I hear great things. I have had KBBS and I think it would be very difficult to top that stout, I've only had 2 that do (DBH and Zhukov's final push).

Is KBBS worth what it takes to land? Yes, for the most part, at least to try once.

@Catchy_Name I think the key, is what "you find to be on par." Because I've had many, if not most, of the top hoppy beers from SoCal and I don't find them 1) on the shelf, and 2) to be at a level of either King Sue or SOSUS (except Beachwood Greenshift, man that was the jam)

To me "over hyped" means not as good as advertised. TG is not over hyped.

I agree that Sosus, while good is not too much better than any other fresh mosaic hop bomb. Now King Sue is on another level of citra DIPA's. Same with Psuedo, its a damned good citra pale, maybe the best. And I'm a big fan of breweries that stick to what they're good at, I wouldn't knock TG for that. After all, what does Alesmith do better than stouts?

I'm a couple of hrs.away. The bigger problem.is that releases are during the week & not announced until the last minute. IF I can get time off work stuff is likely to be gone before I get there.

I was fortunate enough to try KBBS 2013 & 2014. It's very good stuff, but imo wasn't world changing. That's undoubtedly one reason the crazy trading isn't especially tempting. Now VSB...Sigh. There's one I'm seriously nutzzz for.
