i've had all three, and neither of these are close to KBBS.

Amazing and HF stouts should not be used in the same sentence IMO

While my recommendation stands firm on looking for a share with the trading ammo needed to pull a KBBS, I really think KBBS deserves everything that's thrown to it. It's hands down the BEST beer for me, ever! I've had CBS, BG&E, PVW Fayston, Rum Fayston, Jackie O's BBBM, and Lawson's Mapple Tripple (not BA, I know, but if you want maple, you can't get anything better than maple stout that it) and none came close to KBBS for me.

I was actually not a fan of DB Huna and BA Abraxas even though I absolutely LOVE their corresponding non-BA version; however, I recognize that while these are technically stouts, they are not the same core adjuncts (maple + coffee) as KBBS so comparing them to KBBS, to me, is almost apples and oranges.

KBBS is simply amazing. Everything about it is perfect, from the best mouthfeel to the amazing aroma that is unlike anything else you will likely had and ever will. I can only speak for KBBS '14 though, but I wanted REALLY badly to not like the beer so I don't have to look for another one. Alas, miserable failed wish.

the only trouble is - the taste is subjective so while you have it so high, someone else may not...which makes trading 5 other top notch beers for it a risky proposition. I got to try Mornin Delight and had I traded 5 Fou or something like that for it, I would have been pretty disappointed.

agreed. went into it expecting to be let down, but i wasn't.

that being said, i won't be trading for it. it's amazing, but not worth what you have to give up.

Exactly. I thought Mornin Delight was the best non BA stout I have ever had by a huge amount. I would trade anything in my cellar for another fresh MD.

No doubt taste is subjective, no one will dispute that. This is why I compared KBBS to the other BA maple stouts, not other BA stouts with different or no sweetener/flavor adjuncts. That's just about as close as you're going to get to being more objective with taste (comparing similar beers and more than a just a couple of other bottles). My main reason for commenting on how good KBBS was to me was because people started talking about how this or that is better than or the same as KBBS.

I am lucky to be part of a great and fairly aggressive trading/tasting group. One guy in my group was able to get a KBBS for NOTHING close to what is being mentioned in this thread.

We enjoyed it Saturday night. Easily the best beer of the night. Fantastic aromas, flavors and mouthfeel. That said, I am REALLY happy my friend did not blow a cellar of equally awesome beers for the KBBS. Thanks @Syndicate ... But please don't go overboard trying to slay whales.

But it does pay to have good friends in your hometown tasting group and other friends around the country.:grinning:

I gave up a Tired Hands Emptiness is Eternal for mine to a great long-term trade partner. I added a bunch of very nice extras to recognize that he could've gotten A LOT more, but didn't.

I recently helped a friend land a KBBS using 3x Fou, 1x Mamouche, and 1x Lambic Bio Gueuze and thought it was a really good trade. Whether or not it's right to blow away your cellar is a matter of how much you really want it. I've always tried to trade as fair as possible, never give up more than I should and move on away from trades that require me to double or triple $ value, but I definitely can understand dropping A LOT on a KBBS.

I have had Good Morning as well. Not even close to MD imo. Great beer but the body was nothing like MD and body in a stout is something that separates the men from the boys.

I have all three recently and I thought KBBS> Good Morning> BG&E but like people are saying it is all subjective.

I just wanna say that my bottle of KBBS has been empty for a month and a half now and it still smells like pancakes.

literally cannot fathom trading 3 Fou for anything, but especially not for a 12oz. adjunct-stout

...unless you just came back from Belgium with a bunch of Fous and you've had Fous a million times and KBBS none. Considering what the OP is offering up and still got crickets, that was more than a great trade.

I could have a basement full of Fou! my comment wasn't on whether it was fair (based on the absurd trade market), but on the trade market itself

I came back with about 12 Fou and still don't want to trade any

I try really hard to not put extra value on novelty - ie justifying trade value based on "have I had this beer before or not?". so even though there is a good chance I'll never try KBBS and have 10 bottles of Fou sitting in my basement (and have drank a lot in the last couple months) I still wouldn't trade 4x Fou for a KBBS.
