If it was the only way that I could get a bottle and I've never had it before, then yes. Now that I have had a few vintages I would feel like I was getting ripped off past $8. Its an amazing $5-7 beer. Not a $10 beer.

Ouch! That is a little high, but if I didn't have any already I would probably grab one. Think of it this way, if KBS only came in a big bottle for 20$, would you hesitate?

I would gladly pay 10 dollars for that beer, and maybe my left testicle, but I've never had it before and I'm dying to try it. I can't find it around Chicago many places at stores, but I've seen it at bars for the price you listed.

For 1 bottle? Yes. For a case at that price? No. Also Fritts211 are you in Chi? We could possibly set up an IP trade if you are.

Yes, in Chicago living in downtown. Don't have much of a collection, but have some Zombie Dust and Bell's Double Cream right now, can find other things. Mail me if you would be willing to set up IP trade (don't know how to do that with the new site.)

If you've never had it before, yes for one bottle. If you've had it, then only you can make that decision if it's worth it. Personally, right now there are way too many good beers that cost way less.

I'm with everyone that says it's worth it if you've never tried it and you really want to. But it's ultimately a huge markup and I'd pass..

Huge markup? I don't think so. It's absolutely worth it for trying once and I'd gladly pay $10 a bottle for as many as I can get. My father was recently in a small town and saw it for $9.49. I told him to buy EVERY bottle and I got to acquire 2 4packs. Binny's in Chicago charged $6.29, with tax it's roughly $7.00 a bottle. Having to deal with the circus of waiting in line at 9AM for 1 bottle isn't worth it for peace of mind of buying as many as you want for $10 a bottle and having to spend time/energy liquor store hopping to barely complete a 4pack. There are plenty of other higher end BA IS that sell for more.. BORIS sells for $18 for a 22oz, Old Rasputin Barrel-Aged is $20+ and Founder's is way better than either of them.. Even Ebay has them selling for $15-20 a bottle + shipping.

Cheers to having a store still have it available.

It saddens me every time I see threads like this. Not even a year ago it was so much easier and cheaper to find :slight_frown:

I wouldn't. Don't know if it's me or the beer, but I didn't like it this year. Bought 6 bottles, traded 4 away; probably will not bother looking next year.

I actually preferred this over previous years. I guess people have different preferences. I bought/traded for approximately 15 to cellar them beside my Expedition Stouts and Peruvian Mornings, my more normal everyday go to beer.

Tasted like cheap, shitty bourbon on the end to me. I don't recall this from years past, but mouths and beers change

I've always been pretty underwhelmed. I think BCBS is miles ahead of KBS.

I don't know if it's this year or next, but since Founders just tripled their production capacity either the '13 or '14 batch is supposed to have 3x the output.

Also I'd highly encourage those who have it to cellar it for only one year. I went to a bar for a '09 to '12 vertical. The '12 tasting the booziest, but still 2nd best. The '11 was by far the star of the show with the best head/lacing, mouthfeel, and amazing vanilla notes coming through. The '09 and '10 was thin bodied with zero head or lacing, the beer was basically dead.

Just grab a run of the mill thin bodied porter and drop a half shot of Whiskey in it if you want to try '09 or '10 cellared KBS. It's not even really a stout anymore.
