hey I have a kbs from last March a 120 from June 2014 and a prarie bomb for about 5 months. I was told not to age the kbs is that true? Also how long is a good time to age the other beers.

120 is fine to age for many years. Since its such high ABV, people take it 4+ years with very good results.

Lots of people say don't age KBS. I wouldn't go quite that far. I put some away in my cellar just to see and recently cracked a 2013 and a 2014. Both were very enjoyable. That said, aging them didn't improve them (or make them different enough to be interesting). So I would say if you want to age them in order to spread out your drinking of them, that's fine, but don't age them in expectation that they'll get better.

KBS seems to come down to preference, whether you age or not. I've had it both ways, and prefer when it's on the fresher side, but I don't think you'd be disappointed either way.

120minute, I prefer to age for a bit. It's so boozy when fresh, I did't particularly enjoy it.

Prairie Bomb! I wouldn't age. I feel like the coffee fades a fair bit.

    Just my 2 cents.

I agree with those that say to not age Bomb! or KBS. I've noticed Bomb! after even 6 months seems to fall off and tastes like a toned down version of how it tastes fresh. I like bourbon, so I enjoyed KBS fresh. I had a bottle that was 2 years old last year and was not a fan of how all the flavors blended. Just my 2 cents though.

As others have said, the coffee is going to fade first. However, I've have some pleasant experiences when coffee flavors fade. Coffee is not one of my favorite flavors (and some like Sunday Morning Stout, Victory at Sea, etc. I don't really enjoy fresh). But once they age a little, that coffee fades and other favors open up.

As with most beers, you have to cellar it a while and see what you like.

Search. All three of these beers are covered at least once a month.

I age them all. I did a 6 year vertical of KBS last year and it seemed the sweet spot was 2 years of age. They were all very good though.

I don't really like 120, but I get some in trades and just sit let them sit.

I like Bomb at 6 months to a year. It dulls the pepper burn which I don't like.

I had a 2009 120 a few months back and it was barely drinkable, total malt bomb.

With KBS, the coffee fades over time, so it depends how up front you want that flavor. The beer definitely smooths out with time. Founders recommends drinking within 1 year, but then they themselves tap older vintages, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. If I get a 12-pack of it every year, I tend to drink half of it within the first year and lay down the rest. I've got it back to 2009 at this point and it's all really great, but different, depending on how old.

Ive had a KBS with about a year on it and i felt it got pretty thin.....Even when fresh i feel it has just the right amount of booziness to it.

KBS is ok up to a year, but it is really best as fresh as possible. Bomb is pretty much the same way.

To echo the rest on the board, 120 turns into a pretty good barleywine with a few years.
