I got 2 four packs and have only opened one. Is it just me or is the barrel really mellow in it. I was expecting it to be more bourbon forward.

Agreed, although $10 isn't horrible for a single $20 is absolutely douchey.

In the Dickheads defense, all his other beer is priced fair. $20 is the highest I've ever seen or even heard of for current year KBS. He's pretty new and naive to craft beer and doesn't understand that what he's doing is douchey

We'll people are buying it so it's hard to blame him. Usually new people under price their beers, hardly ever see gouging that high.

G'damn, ^^those prices, awful. $23.99 a 4 pack in the bay area, I feel fortunate.

I love KBS. I think it has a drinkability factor that separates it from other big stouts, which I really like. I have to be in the right setting for a thick stout like BCBS, for example, but I can drink a KBS anytime! People on here hate on KBS for being "thin", which is nonsense; it has a medium feel. IMO the medium feel is more enjoyable for me most of the time.

Pretty much my exact thoughts. People can call it "thin" all they want, but the [relatively] lighter mouthfeel is a strength in my opinion.

KBS is good....but has become too popular for many of the hipster groupies. Some people love to feel like they are "in the know", and once everyone knows, they move along to the next thing.
I just like good beer, so Im with you, KBS is fantastic!

I agree with Mainflow20. It is just a great bourbon barrel stout and should be enjoyed for what it is. This is the first year I have had any and considered myself lucky to find 2 - 4 packs running around like an idiot on the release date. I enjoy everything about it. For those that claim that it is a little hot well that is right up my alley. And to top it all off yesterday I was snooping around a sort of run down grocery store in the bad part of town and found an unopened case in the dairy section of all places. That same night my daughters friend who works at a store gave her 2 bottles to give to me because he purchased a 4 pack and did not care for it. Talk about total luck. The beer gods were smiling on me. Now I can put away 5 - 4 packs for aging and still enjoy it without rationing. :grinning::grinning::grinning::grinning:

I would pay $10 no problem if I thought every store was out and walked into this one and saw the display, its just the fact for me that a store 6 mins away was selling them for $5.25 2 per customer, and they sold out in 15 minutes. The demand was there, I'm shocked that these arn't gone even at the $10 price

Honestly after having it, I wouldn't pay $10 a bottle. That's a high price I would only pay if I hadn't had it. It's definitely worth 5.25 though.

KBS and parabola are my favorite. I get the frustration with the hype and search, but it's better than bourbon County and tweak.

You summed up my thoughts exactly, almost always down to pay the price for something I haven't had before .. that or a new years batch in this case. I was lucky to get 2 bottles of KBS 2016 and a 2016 bottle of Parabola for $30.50 roughly within like 5 days of each other. And I found a store 10 minutes away that sells Trillium making my trips to Boston almost nonexistent now

I hope I can avoid the dreaded "hater" tag, but man did this beer fall flat for me this year. Thin, boozy, minimal depth. Bought 4 and gave 3 away to friends who couldn't get any. This isn't a kneejerk counterpoint to the hype, this is sipping it, fully expecting to enjoy it, and....no. Wish it had half the body of FIS.

Not sure why Kbs is so polarizing, it's a great beer. It's great fresh and ages gracefully, IMO nothing not to like if you like barrel aged coffee stouts. The price varies like Bcbs does, but judge the beer as it stands not what some douche is trying to squeeze out of a bottle. It's not worth $10 a pop from a beer store, but vs a $ 5 Miller Lite at a bar, yes.

I think KBS is a great beer. My only problem with it is that I have other beers that I like just as much if not better that are more readily available and cost half as much. That being said, I will try to get more next year because I'm crazy?!?

I realize what a common refrain this has become, almost cliche, but I thought Sunday Morning Stout outclassed it in every way this year. And bought accordingly.

I've only had one SMS and found it harsh and overly boozy. Would have liked to tuck one away for a year or so. Everyone's tastes are different which is a good thing IMO.

I've heard that, and I don't think you're nuts. I just love the big body, I feel like it carries so well. I've also heard of some bottle variance.

I've recently seen a single bottle selling for $17 in a pub. I've also seen $13 a pour on draught. I love KBS but those prices are ridiculous.
