I'm a solid two hours from the brewery, but guaranteeing 12 bottles at a fair price is worth it alone...nevermind the party itself. Last year I had one pour of KBS then shifted my focus to trying to drain a barrel of CBS. I'm certainly not expecting to see CBS on for that long, if at all, this year but I'll just have to 'settle' for KBS and whatever else they decide to tap for the day.

I absolutely agree. So much easier to make the trip and lock up your 12-pack rather than fight the rat race and price gougers.

I'll try to get a ticket no doubt....but....I get the idea of just working local. The day of my ticket last year, Founders didn't even have KBS on tap. So if there's no CBS this year (or very limited and timed), it would kind of make the drive over less spectacular. I really had no problem seeing this in stores last year and my immediate area pretty much sucks for craft. Saw it in 3 stores, and I walked out of one that required other purchases. Yes, it was a few more bucks per pack, but way less than r/t fuel costs and value of 3-4 hours of time driving.

I've read some recommendations about picking a day and going for it, this is the first year I'll be getting tickets and I'm trying to decide how to approach.

Ideally I'd like to go on Saturday, because I'm 2 hours away and would love to hang out and enjoy myself. However, I'm sure that is a lot of other peoples' reality as well. If I go for Saturday and miss out, is it likely that I'll miss any chance to snag a weekday as a contingency play? Can anyone share similar experiences? Because if that is the case, I'll probably just bite the bullet and try to book a weekday. Not wild about driving to/from GR after work, but it's not impossible.

The nice thing about KBS Week is that they bring out some nice beers for the taproom, even though they don't tap KBS until Saturday. Two years ago, they had Panther Cub on tap, and last year CBS flowed all week.

Unfortunately it does seem to be the case that if you miss on your first swing you're pretty much out of luck. That said, it's really not clear to me that Saturday has been harder in recent years - again, possibly because they release more tickets.

Even so, I was thinking of a plan similar to yours, mostly because going up on a weekend for me would almost certainly involve a hotel stay, and I already have a hotel in GR for beerfest just two weeks earlier. Not trying to give those GR hoteliers all my money.

Hoping to get a ticket for a day during the week. Will drive up and hit one of the local KBS tappings and hit some other spots in GR. The next day go to Founders for lunch and bottle pickup. Completely worth the 4 hour drive IMO.

Has anybody heard when bottles are expected to hit shops in NWI?

I am going to shoot for a ticket during the week and burn a PTO day if I succeed.

I hope to get a ticket. I will have three computers going and two other friends trying to get it. KBS might be one of my favorite beers. Hope to go for my first time and have my white whale which is CBS.

Now my wife wants to try and get a ticket also! Looks like I am trying for a Saturday ticket, because she has no PTO days! I am happy because I have a DD and I will be able to get a full case of KBS, I am not happy because it will COST me wayyyyy more than the cost of the beer!
