For anyone interested in KBS, posting this thread as a catch-all for all things KBS in the Chicagoland area but the primary impetus is the change in how Binny's will be releasing it this year. They are taking a page out of their BCBS release approach from this past year. I like the approach personally. Details as follows or on their site.

Tap Takeover details on April 1st for those interested

Friday at 9AM is quite disappointing for people who work M-F 8-5 (for me at least). Probably missing out this year due to this.

"Join us April 1st (no joke, promise!)" The only Jokes are the People lining up for hours for KBS... Really it's just KBS.

I do wonder how the 9am timing will impact how quickly it goes. No doubt it's gone that day, but will it all go within an hour or so like it did before? I am lucky enough to be able to get over there for it most likely,
Remember - Binny's isn't the only game in town! Of course, you probably will need to find a soft spot in your M-F 8-5 schedule in order to grab some, though. That seems to be how it is for just about any sought after beer nowadays, though.

You really think people will line up for hours? I went to 3 different Binny's last year for it, and the only one with a line of significance I saw was LP (no idea how early the first person got there, but I was way in the back and got the exact same amount as the first person). My kids' daycare is right by Binny's, so I'll plan on swinging by after dropping them off. I'll be there probably 30 minutes before open, but that's just because I don't really have anything else to do between the two stops.

Chicago beer scene is crazier by the year. I expect this to have long lines, especially at LP.

People will line up simply because they made an event, People will horde KBS event though it doesn't age well, People will try to trade for outrages beer even though they will get no bites. Remember this is Chicago.

I guess I'm a bit more optimistic for this one, especially since I think there is a good amount of it to go around. I don't think the scene is that much crazier for this than last year, but I do agree with @Jimbobebop that it could be crazier just because Binny's has made it into an event. Regardless, I don't think there are going to be any issues getting this at Binny's if you show up at opening, but we will see next week.

I just had a 2015 last week that was fantastic, so that's why I hold onto mine. But, everyone has different opinions obviously.

People in Metro Detroit line up for hours to get one bottle, I imagine it is the same in Chicago.

People lined up at the buffalo grove Binnys hours before they released it last year which was a weekday at 5pm I think. We showed up about 30 mins before and weren't even close. Total waste of time for KBS IMO. I like it but I'm not waiting hours for it on a work day in particular.

Err... not so much, at least by me. I swung by Binnys about 10 minutes before it opened last year (the store by me was selling it on a Saturday morning) and there were about a dozen people in line...

Two bottle allocation? That is a joke. No thank you.

Definitely not the same. I got 14 bottles last year with not very much effort...granted I had the ability to hit some stores during a weekday, but I never had to show up early to line up (there were lines when I arrived at release time, but I got my 4 pack in both those instances). There are lots of stories about what a mess the beer scene is here in the city of Chicago, but I've actually experienced it to be really good because of the sheer amount of volume that hits stores here.

I don't know why Metro Detroit seems to get such bad allocations - I end up being able to score more of this than my brother does that lives back there. I think he actually got shut out on it this year, and he's hoping I can score some here for him.

I don't think it does, I just think this area has reached critical mass in terms of people that are bat shit crazy about beer. Stores here hold releases for beers like Hopslam, and it sells out in an hour. The beer scene here is a shitstorm of insanity. If you need proof just wait until about noon tomorrow when all the No Rules has sold out at Perrin.

You could be right about the allocations, and it does seem like there is more "holding" of beers back there from what I've heard. I will say, however, that we have quite a few Whole Foods that have made it much easier for me to get KBS, and when I asked my brother about getting KBS at WF back there, it sounded like there was not much there. Maybe it's just the critical mass thing that you mentioned, although we certainly have quite a critical mass in Chicago as well.

You may be right about the Whole Foods. The stores here have a decent but small beer selection and probably do not sell enough Founders to get a decent amount of their allocated beers. We do have a ton of independent grocery stores that just put their whole allocations on the shelf, and whole foods tends to limit you to 2 bottles.
