Honestly, I find this so smooth and rich that I'm missing the heat a little. Easily one of the creamiest and most well-balenced BB stouts I've had. I love the nose. It's blowing my mind as we speak. Coffee flavor isn't quite as prevalent as in the PM for me, but I could care less. This beer is so much more than that. I think KBS sweeps the floor with PM in every way. Compared with the 2012? I also had 2012 aged, so I'll let you know in a few months!

I like Peruvian Morning a lot, especially this year's batch (not just because it's not infected :stuck_out_tongue:) and I am drinking one right now, but yeah, it is in no way shape or form a competitor of KBS. Really hope I can get a damn single or two, would love a fresh one (have also only had an aged 2012, and have two of them left).

I agree with you both, it's like a doubly enhanced version of Peruvian Morning. If you doubled all the characteristics that Peruvian Morning brings in (particularly aroma, flavour and mouthfeel), you get KBS. I could smell the nose when I opened the bottle, it was that strong. And the mouthfeel- really smooth and creamy with a thick body. Peruvian Morning simply feels like a thin bourbon+coffee bomb in comparison. Which is a shame because IMO, from a brewing perspective they're really not that far from where KBS is. At the very least I think Central Waters should up the caramel malts, or whatever else contributes dextrins, in their Satin Solstice (base beer for their BA stouts), because that'd help a lot in the mouthfeel department. And I can't see it making it any more expensive than $12/4pk. In the meantime, I'll happily drink my KBS

Pfft, in Milwaukee it's almost more expensive than that. :stuck_out_tongue: Not by MUCH, but still..

BTW if you don't get your hands on any KBS in Milwaukee, come on over to Madison , the land of $11.99/4pk Peruvian Morning!

That would cost me more than a 4pk locally. :stuck_out_tongue: I do need to go there eventually (I'm a east coast transplant), sounds like a pretty nice beer town.

Well what I meant was that I know I'd be happy to share some KBS with you if you were to make it over here!

I actually got to try PM blinded compared to Dragons Milk. I actually wondered if I would be able to pick it out since I have such a strong dislike for that beer. The exact second that PM hit my lips I knew it. That beer just tastes off to me.

Those complex stouts are very much a matter of personal preference. I had Dark Truth from Boulevard this year for the first time. It is an Imperial Stout, but uses a belgian yeast, and I LOVE that beer so much. I gave a few bottles to my buddies and they all said "meh".

BBPt5 was a top 5 drinking experience of all time. You might even be able to move a bottle of KBS for a bottle of that stuff. You wouldnt be disappointed

For some reason, i much prefer peruvian morning to kbs flavorwise and Id imagine with a year or two on it, even moreso. Only thing i think peruvian morning could use was some body. Maybe since its so much easier to get obtain that my brain tricks itself into thinking that way after i slare it the headache

Last night, after the Great KBS Race, I had a fresh KBS, then a 2012 BCBS from last October or so. I much prefer the KBS. My fiance preferred the BCBS, mostly because the hotness has mellowed out somewhat, but she doesn't drink these kind of beers much at all. I don't suppose anyone in town with KBS might want to trade for some 2012 BCBS? Maybe some of you prefer the BCBS over KBS? BM if interested.

For those who don't know, BCBS was much more readily available in Madison than KBS. BCBS was in stores for days/weeks, and Madison got at least 2 rounds of it. I'm just throwing a potential trade out there in case we've got anybody who loves/prefers BCBS over KBS.

I actually do prefer BCBS over KBS but I have more than enough '12 BCBS to last me a while. However, if you have any '11 BCBS, we're talking a whole other ball game. Good luck, I think someone will take you up on it!

Incidentally, my fiancee is also a big fan of BCBS although she isn't a big beer drinker at all. As far as she's concerned, BCBS > all stouts >>>>> anything hoppy.

I just got into the fold of this need-to-know, ask-at-the-counter type of beer in October later year, so I never had any '11 BCBS. I think I first found BCBS in 2009 or 2010, and it was on the shelf at Woodman's West. I bought a 4-pack, loved it, went back the next day and got another one. I didn't see it on the shelf in years since then, so I just assumed that GI stopped making it or stopped distributing it in Wisconsin or something.

Boy.. I'll never know what that was like since I got into the need-to-know business, and non-NG beers, last fall. Finding BCBS on the shelf. Sounds like a myth/legend these days.

If you are really looking to do a trade for 1 bottle of 2012 KBS, instead of trying to figure out conversions and run into venn diagram issues why not offer a 2013 for a 2012? Seems like a much easier way of going about things.

I'm actually looking to trade 2012 BCBS for more 2013 KBS, if anyone is interested. Also pointing out the difference in availability, so this might be a non-starter. But maybe there are some in Madison who have 2013 KBS and really wish they had more 2012 BCBS, who knows?

I know there were some, but few and far between. That is why I said MOST places.

Do a blinded tasting and see which one you like better

I could be wrong on this, but I have a hard time believing PM will stand up that well to aging. The strong coffee flavor will likely fade in 1 years time. When the distinct coffee flavor drops out, some of the off flavors of the coffee tend to hang back. Also with the weak body, the flavors are likely going to separate out even more rather than mellow and blend.

I would be interested to hear how it ages. I have a buddy with some 2012 that I do want to try even though it is infected, more because I am curious than anything
