    Hey,

So I have search around and can't seem to find a good answer. I know that the KBS label changes year on year and this can be used to tell what vintage you have. I know that some bottles have dates on them but either 1.) they can rub off easily or 2.) some say they can't find the date printed on the neck.

I wanted to see if we could get a list going of the changes by year to help people out.

To get started I have (what I believe to be) a 2013 and a 2014 bottle. The 2014 has a clear date printed on the neck but I can't find anything on the 2013.

I did notice however that the one I believe to be a 2013 has the following differences between it and the 2014.
    • IBUs printed in less bold lettering on the 2013 and the '7' in the "70 IBUs" is smaller and has the base of the 7 extending below the 0.
    • ABV text is smaller on the 2013 as well with the number and alphabetical text being about the same size. 2014 has significantly larger numbering than alphabetical letters.
    • 2014 has text stating "Please Recycle" above the barcode on the bottom right of the main label
    • 2014 also has "Do Not Litter" after the recycling info on the top right of the main label.
    • Over all color of the 2013 label is more yellow however this could be just due to age.
    • On the right side of the neck label the 2013 has "FoundersBrewing.com" while the 2014 has "FOUNDERSBREWING.COM"

It would be awesome if those of you with extended verticals could post the variations between labels to help others out. Can anyone confirm that the differences I see on my 2013 bottle are indeed the 2013 bottle? Is it a 2012? It was received in a trade so I am unsure on the vintage exactly.

Good luck on this one, I'd be interested in seeing these differences to as I start chasing older vintages to build a vertical tasting... I've got 5 bottles of the 2014 and see no reason I can't save one for this purpose.

I recently received a '11 and a '12 in a trade, and I have no idea which is which. Hopefully someone will step up here.

Extensive research on one of my favorites. I have one 2013 and several 2014's. I'll have to look a bit more closely...

I have 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014 in my cellar. 2014 is the only one I have access to. The other bottles are in my parents basement, as we are doing work on our basement and I had to relocate my cellar temporarily.

I'll be at their house over the weekend, so I'll take pics of each year and post when I can.

I know from 2010-2012, the front said "A Stout Ale:". Last year they changed it to "A Flavored Stout".

**I've also bought a silver metallic sharpie. I use this to put the year on certain bottles (like KBS, where it may or may not have the date printed) to keep track of the vintage. The good thing about writing on the bottle is if you (or someone else) wants to collect the bottle, rubbing alcohol will clean the marker right off. Can't do that writing on the label.

I have bottles back to 2011 and still can read the bottling date so I guess I've lucked out.

Yes! This is what I started doing the second I decided to cellar vintage beers. I write it on the bottom.

on the bottom of the actual bottle (not the label the glass) you can see the year (not sure about 2014) but the previous vintages had it.

Sorry I know it's been mentioned in a past thread, too many to find it. My helpful 2 year old granddaughters helped in pops beer closet and moved all my beers around. No big deal except I have 12/13/14 KBS mixed around and I can't tell which is which. Codes or dates I missed? Sorry for the duplication.

There should be a date on the bottles. I have two production dates on two different bottles from March 2014 - one is printed in yellow, the other is printed in black (WTF?). It's there but you have to get the glare of a light in order to read it. Otherwise it doesn't look like a date even exists.

Some don't have dates on them that I've noticed. I could only buy singles with a 2 bottle limit at places I went. I got home and noticed that one bottle was missing the yellow stamped date while the other from the same store had it. Could I possibly have rubbed it off since they were in a cooloer at the store but were stored in my car for the whole trip? Maybe a little sweat and my hand rubbed it off when I picked it up perhaps...

It seems like they only put the date on one of the bottles per 4-pk. Had the same issue as OP.

In the 2014 version, I think the year is permanent markered directly under the ABV around the neck of the bottle which wasn't on the 2013 version.

yeah. I read that about almost every yearly release of any beer. I still sipped mine and loved it and have another to sip on sometime by a fire. reading my review of 2013 and comparing 2014 it was definitely different. but not any less delicious.

When I get back home I'll throw up a pic of the '09 that I have a case of, it def has a different label than most the years after it.

On some of my bottles the 11.2 is different in size. I figured out my 2012 bottles no clue the 13 from the 14. I have bottles that say flavored stout but the Abv are different sizes.

Founders date your damn bottles or labels.
