I agree. Circumventing limits so other people get shut out is always a dick move. Always.

I thought the point of being married or having a girlfriend was to double allotments.

Since I just came from an absolute shit meeting with the tax accountant, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say married buying jointly. (Yeah I know he said GF, but that would...oh forget it.)

This is true. Someone always gets shut out no matter what shenanigans are about.

My wife and I sometimes each get our own bottle or our own 4-pack of limited beer, but that's because she enjoys drinking it with me and she is a legitimate customer and consumer of the product. I don't really have an issue with someone bring along their girlfriend or wife to score an extra bottle or a 4-pack of something limited even if they don't drink it.

I do have an issue with the fools who chase trucks and snatch up every last bottle or case fully knowing they are being greedy and ridiculous about it. Bringing your buddies or family to mule for you when they don't drink the beer is more of the dick move stuff because it's taking advantage of the situation.

I used to get pissed about getting shut out but not so much anymore because it's bound to happen again and again. Catch me on the right/wrong day and I'll say I don't give a shit about it at all. It's like the unwritten rules of baseball. Some of them are so ridiculous yet people get pissed off at he drop of a hat. Craft beer has its own unwritten rules it seems, also.

Exactly. People are free to be greedy pricks, while others are free to call them out on it. Freedom galore!

I don't care about getting shut out of rare beers. It's the behavior and defense of the behavior that I find annoying. Think of it this way. When you're at a gathering and there's not a lot of a particular food, etc., I was taught to leave some for others, not fill my plate like a hog leaving nothing for people after me. What happened to manners? People treat rare beer like it's some kind of competition.

i'm still amazed at the lengths/extremes people go to for beer. lately, i've been hearing a lot about people stocking up just for trades--they're even drinking what they bought.

to go off topic from kbs for a moment, i know somebody that was talking to a person on line when tired hands first canned and released. the guy bought 2 cases to trade and admitted he hated the beer--not cool in my book.

Wait, KBS is considered rare? When did that happen? This region seemed flooded with it.

Yeah, free country, be greedy, act like a dbag, who cares. This kind of attitude of screw the next guy is an element of craft beer that really sucks.

    Hypothetical question (to your point):

    Which is better:
    • A guy who brings his girlfriend (who, for the sake of argument, doesn't like beer) to buy twice the limit, ends up with 8 bottles, doesn't buy more
    • A truck-chaser who never goes above limits but, taking advantage of a loose work schedule and friendly relationships with shop owners, ends up with two cases
For me, it's the latter that I find more annoying. And it's not because I think what they are doing is wrong; honestly, it's probably the part of me that wishes I had the expendable time and income to buy whatever I wanted whenever I could.

Overall, I just find drawing these arbitrary lines in the sand absurd at a certain point. The guy's girlfriend had every honest right to buy an allotment as well, even if it was a "gift" to her boyfriend. He's not turning around to sell the beer in his own shop, nor does he seem to be buying it to turn around and trade (as KBS is pretty weak trade bait these days anyway, I'd assume). "Someone else" isn't going to get an allotment from that shop, it's true, but it seems that the poster had every intent of fully enjoying the beers himself.

I look negatively on both scenarios. Yes, the girlfriend has the right to buy the beer, but it is a very thinly veiled effort by the boyfriend to get more than the limit. It is selfish and greedy. Store owners and breweries set the limits so more customers can get the beer, not for selfish assholes to figure out ways to get more for themselves.

Here is a scenario, would someone who uses mules to get more do this also:

They are at a party, only two beers left, would they take the last two and tell the person behind them who wants want one to eff off, too bad. I highly doubt most people would do that, but essentially when people use a mule someone "behind" them gets shut out.

    It's a misleading comparison.

At a party, few are going to pound two pours of a beer in a row. A better comparison would be more straightforward - if there were 2 allotments left, and one other BA was standing in line behind him and his girlfriend. Were I the guy with the girlfriend, would I buy more than one allotment? I don't think I would. But I still can't fault him. Mules piss me off, but only because I assume ill intent and excessive greed. But I just don't think that's actually the case is almost every situation like this one.

I don't see any problem in having an SO (who may or may not be into beer) helping to get an extra allotment. but it's seems silly to boast about it online, esp in a thread where people are actively searching for it.

Sounds like some of you haven't gotten laid in a while and are a bit jealous that the guy actually has a girlfriend. There has to be some benefits to putting up with my bitchy wife. Having her pick beer up for me is one of them.*

*This is a direct quote from my bitchy wife.

Hmm. Ok. I have an awesome wife of the non-bitchy variety and I still think it's a dick move. Just get your allotment and move on.

My wife drinks as much beer as I do. Whatever she's picking up for me, she's drinking half of.

Without rehashing the above comments, I'm always surprised when people hoard the shit out of non-tradeable beers that have easily accessible competitors. I buy cases of BCBS if they're available at one place but you're not winning, you're a loser if you just spent a week piecing together a case of KBS by hitting 1-2 btls per store by chasing trucks and refreshing BA and Facebook.

I also blame Founders for the stupidity of KBS. Why on earth would they make more Backwoods than KBS, considering they both use roughly the same amount of resources? They make some quality beers but other than homerun they hit w the All Day 15pks, I can't say they make very good marketing or production decisions. I guess in the end it doesn't matter but it seems like they create silly situations on purpose.
