Founders price, at the brewery, this year was $20/4pk otd

Deposit would be $0.40, sales tax in MI is 6%. It makes the effective price $18.49 before tax/deposit

Not a terrible per/bottle price considering some of the more ridiculous price-gouging we're seeing.

I guess I'm slightly annoyed that people are willing to pay some of these outrageous prices. I don't know all the ins and outs of distribution, but there sounds like a lot of just plain robbery going on. If it were my beer and someone reported to me that a store was selling it for nearly double I'd try to make sure they didn't get any next time. I understand people love it, or just want to try it, but damn. I've never had Heady or Pliney and would love to, but if it showed up in my area for $40 there's no way I'd pay that.

Now, I got an offer from my local store to enter to win the chance to buy a 4-pack at $6 a bottle. At that price, and with the effort of an e-mail and picking it up if I win, I'm willing. Still not chasing, but if it drops in my lap, so to speak, it is a good beer and worth the price.

    Just a little follow-up...

At two different stores in Suffolk County, LI, it was an $8 bottle (no 4-pack pricing b/c the stores both had 2-bottle limits).

I found the KBS in Illinois for $7.99 a bottle with a two bottle limit. I'll be passing on that action. Maybe I'll score a bottle of Parabola whenever it hits here. My store is only getting 6 bottles though.

Got the last bottle a the first place and the last 2 bottles at the third. Score.

My store had a 2 bottle limit set at $4.99 per bottle. Very fair if you ask me.

In Chicago, we can't sell it by the bottle. $19.99/4pk was the prevailing retail. Spectacular value if you ask me.

I understand the 1btl limit at a lot of places. Most stores around here got 1cs, if any at all. Gotta spread the love around.

We can count on the KBS release, like clockwork, to bring out the worst in both retailers and consumers, at least in Orange County, New York. My two biggest nightmare/buffoon stories from the 2015 release:

    1) Beer World in New Windsor - They get their allotment on Friday. I'm a regular customer there so I figure they'll do right by me. The counter-clerk acknowledges that they have it in stock and also informs me that I'm getting "the last bottle" as in 1 bottle. $10 + tax and deposit which works out to $10.85. Horrible to be sure, but I don't get overly caught up in the prices. The issue arises when a (female) friend of mine tells me she walked in 45 minutes after I did and was cheerfully provided 2 bottles. Same price, but still unbelievably poor business practice. I'm imagining that the retailers don't understand that the customers talk to one another.

    2) Monroe Beer and Soda in Monroe New York - Also get their allotment on Friday, I don't go there because I had already managed to scrounge 4 elsewhere. An acquaintance tells me he walked in, found 6 4-packs of KBS on the shelf, and bought them all. A case of KBS, in upstate New York, sitting there on the shelf, no bottle limit evidently. And one customer buys every one of them.

    Whatevs.
