Hasoos. The best beer I ever had wasn't the best beer that I've had. Prove to me that this beer is worth the price! I love watching and listening to all the befuddled people.

Agreed, throw it in 22oz bottles for $11 and people would rave about what a steal it is. Especially considering what Blushing Monk and Big Luscious go for.

it's $30/4-pack at two separate places in Westchester county NY and Fairfield county CT. Limited to a single 4-pack per person. Both stores were allocated 3 cases a piece.

On LI, it is due in the store tomorrow, and it'll go for about $7 or 8 per bottle.
You've got to get on the list in order to purchase it, and it's a two-bottle limit  lol

Thats what baffels me and I dont even really love KBS that much. Good beer and I enjoy a 4pk every year. However people go ape sh*t over BM, BL, and all of the founders back stage releases that get priced at $16+ for a 750ml......I dont get it. The back stage has been mediocre at best in recent years and people go crazy for it but 20 buck for a killer barrel aged coffee stout and people act like you want them to trade their first born. They could easily put this in bombers every year and charge 19.99+ for it and it would still sell out in minutes.

Well just look at the price differential on something like Surly Darkness. What was that in Chicago - about $20-22 a bottle?
This works out as twice the price of KBS per ounce and finding Darkness was a huge PITA.

People suck at beer math... I am just happy that people don't do the math because when I find BCBS or KBS marked up at retail for $30-35 a 4 pack I grab it - still a good deal compared to almost any other barrel aged stout in bombers.

My problem isn't with the price Founders sets, it's the stores that breakup 4-packs and jack up single bottle prices. That's why I love guys like Vinnie from Russian River and John from Alchemist. They see that shit happen and they will make sure you never sell their products again.

I agree some prices are way out of hand but i think the average is about $6 from what I have seen and that is really not all that bad. Althouhg I do agree I wish they were not able to do that.

Right. I couldnt agreee more. I mean I was pissed with the price increase of BCBS this year but in the long run it is a killer deal compared to all of the other 20$ bombers I buy with out a second thought. Ill second that Darkness was a massive PITA.

I guess, but you are talking about very different distro footprints. I doubt Founders has the control to limit what retailers do with a once a year beer like KBS. Founders is also heavily reliant on these same retailers to shift their year round beers (RR and Alchemist not so much) so I imagine Founders isn't too fussed if these guys make a few extra bucks on their 2 cases a year of KBS.

I mean, normal retail is about $22 a 4 pack (at least here in Chicago) so if they got 2 cases and broke them up into singles and sold them for $8, they would make $100 bucks extra - probably barely covers the cost of answering phones for the last 2 weeks with people calling and asking about the stuff!

Spreads the love though - means more of a stores customers get a bottle. At $6 a bottle that is an extra 50 cents mark up - seems perfectly fair to me, and it means they have 24 or 48 customers who get some instead of 6 or 12.

In all honesty, what % mark up do you think a retailer is entitled too?

I believe that the retailers cost per 4 pack is $15 a 4 pack. It may be less.

I will not support a retailer who gouges people,

I guess I am one of the rare people who would actually prefer to see higher prices on these rare releases. I mean, I would be happy paying more, but at least I would be able to get these beers whenever they come out.

I value my time, and if you factor in time, effort, gas to drive around, and general frustration I would happily pay an extra $20 to avoid all that on the occasional rare release...

I would think the 21.99-24.99 per four pack that a majority are charging is perfectly fair for a rare release that they get 1-3 cases of.

Good Point. I would gladly pay 45-50$ per four pack and the variants to not sit in the cold all night on thanksgiving.

Not to be too much of a douche, but plenty of others will buy it - these once a year releases are way under priced for the demand, so I don't really blame a retailer who is maximizing their stores profit - if they are lucky they have a few cases, and even at $15 a 4 pack, they are only making a 30% margin if they sell at $20. most regular beer is about that margin, which isn't a lot to keep the lights on in a retail store unless you have massive volumes.

Put it this way, the typical margin on a bomber is 50%, so if they bumped their margin up to that, then they would sell KBS for $30 - not really any more than BCBS goes for...
