Dr. Beer wins another nobel prize of douchebaggery for his commitment.

Edit: Seriously, I'm happy it's delicious if it truly is. Cheers.

Who's Dr. Beer? And how much consumption has tonight brought you?

Store around here had two cases left. I had to ask at the counter and was allowed one bottle i bought at $8. Will try it in a few days.

I wasn't interested in buying a four pack but come on. Hiding it behind a counter and a one bottle limit at a six pack or bomber price is funny to me. My curiousity got me and the fact i just stumbled avross it got me to buy but the insanity craft veer can be is still laughable.

I should disclose that I am not a fan of Breakfast Stout at all though. The coffee they use and how they brew with it always leaves me feeling like I'm chewing on coffee bean grounds. If I wanted that, I'd just eat chocolate covered espresso beans. That's why I prefer my KBS with a longer age to it. The astringent, acidic, coffee blast tones down and allows the barrel and chocolate to shine.

Full disclosure, I don't think KBS(or CBS for that matter, unless you speak of the pre-backstage series bottle/current draft version) are even their best beers.

-Side bar for a sec, the beer that they used to call Canadian Breakfast Stout, again, spelled out and not abbreviated, was one of a kind. Then they bottled it. I bought 6 bottles in total, tried it fresh the day it was released, and then aged and drank one for a year for the next 5 years. It it never got better. Pre-bottling, that beer was never aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels. It was a maple imperial stout brewed with maple syrup and then BBA'd-

I think Backwoods Bastard is the epitome of what a perfect BBA beer is. It has everything. And Jesus H. does it age well. I'd buy 1/6th'l kegs of that if they made it year-round. I think it's the best beer they make.

Hey, if you ever find yourself wanting to part with a Parabola, I have lots to trade. I love that beer.

I say that you add this beer in* : I love all the BBB. # I have had. we even got a Texas coffee variant this year: (Cultivar)#55. ! was nice coffee blend.
*Coffee Noir - Prairie Artisan Ales ....
Imperial Stout Aged in Oak Whisky Barrels with Coffee Beans ! :grinning:

I enjoyed the 2016 KBS . ! did a 2015 vs. 2016 - this beer is great fresh out of the gate. Or you can age it as well. The 2015 really held up well W/ 1 year on it . Mellowed out the coffee. Brought the chocolates, big time to the front .! It, Was a nice side by side enjoyed both !

Got 2 KBS this year due to a fluke spring break trip to AZ. Had one tonight and would say that fresh it's better than Breakfast Stout but a ways back from my favorite BBA beers (Fremont B-bomb and Parabola). It's a bit hot and the more coffee beer I try, the more I realize I love great coffee and great beer but they are best enjoyed separately. I'm saving the second KBS for the end of the year in hopes it settles down a bit. Glad I hunted this down and had it but won't travel out of state to get it again.

Just got two bottles today at House of 1000 Beers in New Kensington, PA. 2016 KBS is solid! Had it on draft too and I'm loving it more than 2015. Lots of coffee upfront with a nice bourbon burn and aftertaste, but not overwhelming. Wish I scored a case but I am happy with my two bottles

I found a 4 pack at my go to beer supplier here in central Arkansas. 20 and change for a 4 pack and while thats near my upper limit for beer it was well worth it to me. Sure there's this or that beer that I may like better or you may like better but this is a very solid barrel aged beer and I enjoyed it.

Shelf turding in the Sacramento area. I have seen it in 4 different stores the past couple days just sitting on the floor or shelf in mass quantities. Fine with me...I just keep buying it where I find it.

How long does a beer have to sit on a shelf to become a turd?

Right, wasn't the target release date 4/1? How dare a beer be available for purchase for two whole weeks??? Doesn't everyone have time to chase trucks...:astonished:

Just a heads up to those in the Simsbury/Avon area of CT. Valley Fine Wines in Simsbury still has 8-9 bottles on the shelf. Limit 1 and they're $8 or $10 a bottle but everything is pricey around here.

I hear you, I guess it's just that it's crazy to me to see case upon case of it stacked up in grocery store aisles when it was gone in a matter of hours and lined up for when I lived in Michigan and I'm sure many other places as well.

Had one last night, I really like the 2016 version. Rich, chocolatey, dark malt, bit of caramel, very smooth and balanced barrel tones. It is delicious.

It was so delicious, in fact, that I wanted more. Waltzed right in to my SF Peninsula market this morning and bought another 4-pack. They had like 4 cases just sitting there. Freakin score!

Well, living in Seattle I knew that landing KBS would be an expensive proposition. I was able to get a shop in my college town of Lawrence, Kansas to hold me a 4-pack until family member arrived to pick it up. Add in shipping reimbursement and this 4-Pack of KBS cost me over $50!!!!!

Kinda sick to my stomach considering I could have purchased at least 2 cases of regular Goose Island Bourbon County Stout here in Seattle and simply traded for KBS. UGH!!!

Oh well, I been fortunate to purchase a case of Parabola, Velvet Merkin, and 6 bottles of Epic's Big Bad Baptist Bourban Barrel Stout in the last few weeks. This will hold me over until next years KBS 2017 release, considering I might be living back in the Midwest.

*Side Note* I will compare Founders KBS to Prairies Artisian Ales barrel products as my personal barometer, since I think Prairie is kickin' ass and takin' names in the barrel category!

I would love to buy SMS instead of KBS. The problem is that it's nowhere near as good.

Count me in the minority that thought SMS was a tad better than '16 KBS (my first time with both), but SMS was damn near impossible to get in WI. I managed to cobble together 6 bottles of KBS but only scored a single SMS due to eagle-eyeing the last bottle behind the counter after the clerk thought it was already gone. As they say in real estate: "Location, Location, Location."
