I hate to be the harbinger of bad news but yeah. This is no different than what distributors do to businesses. How do you think they come up with their 'allocation' lists? It's all based on sales #'s. Which happens in Texas even though it's illegal. Because you know, who's got money to take big beer to court? Like I said, I'm not trying to bad mouth anybody but it is what it is. Do I agree with it? No, not at all. Does it happen? Yes. Should businesses do this? No. Do they need to recoup their expenses? Yes.

I saw something similar in southern MI. $25 for a mixed 4pk:KBS, Breakfast Stout, Devil Dancer, Mosaic Promise. It was the only way to get a bottle at that store. I passed, and will every time.

When I was young and stupid I paid $12 for a bottle thinking it was my only chance, then drove 2 miles and bought a single for $6. I told myself I'd have to pay $18 for a bomber of lots of high-priced stuff. I drank them and they were OK, but I'm done. I might try it this year if it's pouring on draft at a reasonable price in a week or two. And BTW the $12 store, where I'd been going a couple times a week for a couple of years, lost all of my business in favor of the second store.

I always think of pay to play as distributors paying to get a dedicated beer tap.

Is this practice really illegal? How about if I offered up buy a bottle of KBS for $60, get $50 value of beer free?

In this case, it just seems that a retail outlet is providing conditions to purchasing a limited beer. I actually wish my local bottle shops would do this as I would be more than happy to spend $50 to purchase a beer. In NOVA you have people run from place to place to hoard KBS at $10 a pop and don't spend anything more at that shop.

It appears my view is in the minority here, but I do wonder if this is illegal. If it is, I frankly don't think it should be. If you don't like it, don't buy the KBS. I guarantee they will move their allocation.

In Kentucky, most of the liquor barns are releasing there allotment at 6 pm. Turns out they got about 13 cases at the bigger stores which is nuts to me. I'll take my 6 bottles I got and go home. 35 bucks for 6 is really good in my opinion.

Paid $23.99 here in Nor-Cal a couple days ago. Cracked my first one last night.

I'm disappointed. It's thinner than years past. Nice barrel taste, but lacking the bourbon flavor. Mouthfeel isn't there like it use to be. The coffee seems lacking and no real chocolate sweetness. It honestly seems like it was rushed, or toned down.

Having said that, it's still tasty, it's just not what I was expecting from years past.

I got it for about $5.25 a bottle ($21 for a 4 pack). Thats not bad, especially when you look at what some other similar options (i.e. Bomb! and variants) go for now.

Got 6 bottles on the way to work this morning. That's enough for me. Enjoy a few and keep the ol' vertical going (2011,12,13,14, and 15, meet 2016 - the newest member of your family).

So how much do you pay for a BA stout? Prices here for KBS are 6-7 bucks a bottle. Most bombers of other BA brews are 16-17 around me.
I do feel lucky KBS is in 12 oz bottles.

It's $20 per 4pack at the brewery at the release. What is so unreasonable about it costing $3-8 more when it had to be shipped across the country and flies off the shelves evaporates before it hits the shelves? I guess I just don't see that being unreasonable. $10 per bottle? Yes. $20 per bottle? Insane. Spend $50 on other beer to be able to pay $10 per bottle? GTFO. But there are plenty of folks happy to pay for the privilege.

Tap prices, to me, are the bigger ripoff.

The price of one of the best BA stouts out there is fair to me. Being able to get this beer for 6 bucks a bottle is insanely good. Bomb is 8.99 here and if I'm being honest, KBS is so much better to me. Shit, I paid 11.99 for BA bomb and that beer isn't even close to me. This is my favorite BA stout out there and the price while looks high if you don't know what your getting, is fair to me. Founders makes fantastic and rather cheap beers.

The prices most people on here complain about amaze me. I get it, they're definitely expensive and it sucks, but I'd love to pay most of those prices. I'm in the San Jose area, and I don't think I've seen any of the Prairie bomb varieties less than $13, BA might have even been $16. Pretty sure KBS, if it ever gets here will be at least $25/4-pack, if they even sell them that way. I could see it being just singles, at $10 each. I just bought a couple Backwoods Bastards for $7 each... doesn't seem so painful til everything gets added up at the register. Still, very stoked to find that one.
