I did an 08-13 vertical a few months back with three others, and here were our results (In order, left to right):

    11, 09, 13, 10, 08, 12
    11, 13, 10, 09, 08, 12
    12, 08, 13, 09, 10, 11

Had the opportunity to talk with Dave Engbers last Thursday at a welcome to Florida Founders take over. Mentioned having a bottle of 2012 and he said drink it now.

of course "drink it now" less supply creates more demand!

I'm doubtful of that. Their supply already can't meet their demand.

Also, I've never met a brewer that said," don't drink my beer right now, it's not good enough right now and will be better later"

Always glad when people share tasting notes like this on older vintages of KBS. I can never bring myself to age it. It simply tastes too good fresh so I keep it in the fridge. Perhaps someday it will be easier to buy and then I'll give it a shot.

some Deschutes beers had a best after date, Black Butte XXV says best after 06/10/14. So there you have it.

As for the topic at hand, fresh is best.

Tried a '13 alongside a '14 recently. This new batch is absurdly delicious and has to be the best KBS I've ever had.

    Cheers!

It's perplexing as Founders official stance has always been their beers are brewed to be consumed immediately....Yet the often feature vintages in their taproom.

most people i have talked to say 14 isn't that great and to let it sit around for about 3 months or so before trying it. im still enjoying my 13's!

I never go past 8 months on this beer. I've had vintage bottles and everyone is right, it does mature....but when you lose the coffee, that's 1/3 of the flavor. If I want a solid BA chocolate stout, I'll go buy one and drink it fresh. Just one mans opinion

That's amazing that you were able to get so many. Any comparisons to 2014? It's the only one I've had and I loved it. Letting one age now.
