KBS vs. BCBS Barrel Numbers

Also, BCBS had multiple bottling dates this year, whereas KBS has one bottling date...could be that those barrel numbers are per batch of BCBS to be bottled?

 

I still see BCBS and BCBBW sitting around the shelves in LI and in Rhode Island. KBS came and went in hours. Those numbers can't be right. One of the stores i frequent even just lowered the price on a 4-pack BCBS because he has so much extra and no one seems to be buying them.

 

I was able to snag plenty of BCBS in Chicago this year, I made few trips to my LBS this week an came away with few bottles of KBS. Most of the LBS sold 1 bottle per person or wanted buyer to purchase a pack of All Day IPA to get a whole box of KBS.

 

For what it's worth, I struck out a bunch of places in Chicago looking for KBS, and when I finally found I place that had some, they were selling it by the bottle (2 per), and only had 6 or 8 bottles left after mine. And I got there within about 10-15 minutes of them bringing it out. The owner said they sold out in less than 20 minutes.

 

I live just outside of Cincinnati in KY and my local spot got about 6-7 cases. they hooked it up this year and were selling 1 4 pack per person, but last year we only got 2 cases and it was 1 per person.

BCBS for black friday went in like 30 minutes. people lined up when the store opened.

 

Looks like most people aren't accounting for how much is kegged. I know Philly Beer week has loads of kegs of the stuff...it's not rare to see multiple bars having KBS on tap that week. We do see BCBS on tap, but much less than KBS.

There is for sure more BCBS than KBS around, plus Goose used some of that AB money to build a dedicated warehouse for barrels.

For those with BCBS on the shelves still: what's the price on those 4 packs?

 

I still see it on one store's shelf at 40.00 a four pack. I'll wait a tad bit longer

 

If BCBS is such a shelf turd in the Northeast that you can still walk into a shop and buy 2012, GI needs to start adjusting their distribution based on sales. That's just ridiculous. It would gladly be bought up in most other areas.

 

I was able to have two of my regular shops each to hold a 4 pack of KBS for me, nither of those two stores put it on their shelfs. They both wanted their regular customers, who enjoy good craft, to have have it (very stand up people I think) Therefore maybe that is why you dont see it. In CT I had it on April 1 and April 3 another shop said they will have it today, we will see? Who knows how long founders will ship it though, they say APRIL. Has it all been bottled? Was this just the first round?

 

I know there are lots of KBS kegs going out this year which may have brought down the bottle count. Just a thought

Once they drop it to something more reasonable, still accounting for the Philly bottle tax, I'll jump on it.

 

I don't care fore the term shelf turd, but it does hang around in MA as well. 2012 was around for a full year in a handful of places, 2013 looks to be the same. The variants go right away.

 

I've heard there's over 5000 barrels of BCBS produced a year. With that said I watched a show on Kentucky Bourbon and they said there was something like 280,000,000 barrels being aged at any given time, just in Kentucky.

If you think of the number that are emptied on a daily basis there should be no shortage of barrels available for brewers. I know a lot go to Scotland, but there's still a ton out there. Weren't you able to buy barrels for next to nothing at one point ?

this. lots of bars/pubs in DC VA have quarter barrels of KBS -- i think that's where it goes.

BCBS you don't see that much of in barrels.....also, not sure if GI does 1/6 or 1/4s

 

Sorry, should have been more specific. I've seen BCBS on LI and BCBS and BCBWW in Rhode Island. If you're interested in some BCBWW let me know, I'll be back in LI next Friday. $20 flat for 4-pack. Also was lucky enough to come across 6 bottles of KBS and may be willing to trade one or two.

 

Was in Chicago for BCBS release (over Thanksgiving) and didn't have too much of a problem getting the regular and variants. Then went back to Minnesota and had more of problem getting BCBS there, but ultimately much easier than KBS.

As for KBS, it was released today and it was a madhouse. Stores selling out in 7-15 minutes upon release, 1/2 bottle limits. Makes for hard to get. I got my 2 and I'm happy with that.

 

While NorCal only got BCBS and its variants this year, we're SOL on KBS. And while I was lucky to get two four packs via trade, you lucky bastards can eat me.
Ppl rave about my area getting Pliny bottled same day...gimme the Mid-West distro any day of the week!
