I actually prefer it right around that six month spot. Soon after that, usually a year, it falls off.

I've always suspected there are many beers that have a fantastic sweet spot that occurs some time after release. Most of us aren't popping the same beer month in and month out to nail it down. KBS is a good example of a beer that bucks that trend because of such great price and availability.

8 months is typically my sweet spot for KBS.

Witnessed the raffle for kbs Friday at a local merchant. I passed on it. And bought better beer. Been there done that beer. Hype not worthy.

3-9 months has always been my sweet spot...

Still plenty of it in the wild, bought a 4pk at $23.99 for a friend coming in next weekend.

If my retailer did that, I'd stop shopping there.

    What did you buy?

Not impressed with 2018 KBS. Yes I think in 3 years it will be better. Huge fan of 2017 KBS fresh, 9 months later it was terrible. Hence, 2017 KBS was best fresh, same not true about 2018. My conclusion: each batch is different. Some batches will improve with age. Vertical isn't always smart. 2018 is not same as 2017, more bourbon forward in 2017. Bourbon is weak in 2018. I suspect 2018 will improve with age. This does not mean all KBS age well, truthfully it shouldn't but I think 2018 will. 2018 sure as hell isn't enjoyable fresh so might as well age it as 2018 fresh tasted worse than 2017 aged 9 months.

Still quite a bit available in Howell area. Meijer has "a lot" at $25 OTD, Jonnas has a pretty good stack at $37 OTD

I respectfully disagree that the 2018 is not good fresh. I enjoyed one yesterday over the course of a basketball game, flavors deepened as the beer warmed and the carbonation faded a bit. For once the beer actually hit my sweet spot. I will agree that there is less bourbon than previous years, more of a musty oak than bright bourbon barrel.

I have to say I think this is the best year of KBS. I totally agree about being able to taste the Oak which I love.

I am not sure if they are managed by the same people, but there is a Jonna's in East Lansing. I stopped shopping there after a few times. All of the limited release stuff was either 'already spoken for' or if available, way over priced.

This is why I didn't care much for it. It's less bourbon flavor. I like a big bourbon forward bite to it. Last year had it, this year doesn't. But I can also see why someone might like this version better.

Cracked a 2018 last night..thought it was pretty bad.
I think if I gave this to someone who had never had kbs before they would be very confused about the hype..and I'd be explaining why it is such a good beer. Weak bourbon presence, and bile bitterness of the raw dark chocolate and coffee. Hit me up if you want to trade I have 2 4 pks.
