Basically more than breweries and bars. Stuff like museums and whatnot.

The GR Children's Museum is pretty cool. Even for adults.

a museum for a 9 month old? I tried taking my son to all sorts of stuff at that age, and he didn't care about it vs. if I gave him a box to play in lol.

Unless you specifically get a ticket for Saturday, I can't really call KBS week much of an event. Founders themselves doesn't typically have anything special on tap until the actual Saturday party, so it mostly just entails a couple minutes to pick up your order, then going to one of the other bars around town who were given a keg of KBS for that particular day.

Founders always has some cool stuff on tap during KBS week. The last 2 years CBS has been on and always the latest backstage/barrel-aged stuff. Not to mention the one-offs you can only get at the tap room. They may not be OMG WHALEZZZZ BROOZZZ but they are good beers.

I have spoken with folks at Founders who indicated that their expansions over years past have boosted their KBS output. Of course, they're also distributing to more states, so it could be broader and not deeper, in terms of any given market. You're right, though, that at some point I would assume (but didn't talk to them about that issue) that they'd fill up their cave aging space. I don't know whether any of their recent expansions have provided any specific additional barrel aging space in one of their facilities.

    One word of warning:

Founders is normally kid friendly, but last year for the actual release party on Saturday children were not allowed. A friend of mine who brought his 1-year old found out the hard way.

I'll second this...I actually think they do this for any big 'event'. I know the black party is at least, and KBS Saturday is certainly similar in scope.

Even if kids aren't officially barred that day, it gets crowded enough to make toting a 9-month-old around very uncomfortable. Sunday will probably be much more low-key and while the CBS might not last, I'd guess that they'll still have some interesting stuff on tap.

Thanks. I imagine I'd hit that up by myself. Just wanted to see if there was enough other family stuff to justify the trip to my wife.

Their new production brewery down the street is supposed to have dedicated barrel-aging space. Given that the underground caves are part of the KBS story, I don't see them ever moving KBS above ground. But the others most likely will have some aging at the new facility.

I'm very sorry, but I'm going to have to be "that guy". Last year, tickets were $5 with no fee and four packs were $20 each. I'm certainly going to still try to get a ticket, but do the math for yourself.

They had no fee because they were charitable donations. If you go on kbsweek.com you'll see that the price of a 4 pack has gone up to $24 (which yeah, is a bummer especially with them bragging how much more of it they've made) and the bombers are 18.

Why are you now offering packages?
Each year we're asked to produce more KBS and this year we were fortunate enough to be able to do so. That increase does put an added strain on the pickup process, though. Our intent is to streamline that process as much as possible while offering our customers the greatest amount of KBS. Having two package types allows us to make that pickup process go as smoothly as possible.

I'll probably just wait until they release it at their company store after the big release, and not have to pay for a ticket or have to buy it in a 750 format.

Personally, I think the change in the ticket selling process is a good thing. In years past, trying to get your allocation was largely like playing the lottery--with that many people taking a shot, getting in and getting your allocation was more or less a crapshoot.

And doing releases with ticket sales (as opposed to lining up) only makes it worse. After all, having a ticketed release already increases the number of potential buyers, because when there is no risk of walking away empty handed after not getting in line early enough, way more people take fliers on getting a ticket. It's a lot easier to stomach a 6-hr drive when you know you're getting an allocation. Add in the fact that you could win a ticket and only lose $5 if you decide not to go for whatever reason, and the size of buyers was likely huge.

This year, I think the pool of people trying for tickets will be much smaller. I realize the transaction doesn't process until you arrive to pick up your allocation, but the FAQ also says that tickets are non-refundable. I doubt there will be as many people taking a flier on a ticket without some level of assurance that they'll be able to make it and not waste their $80-130.

I have to admit, I kinda want a 750 mL bottle just for the novelty of it. I know, I know-- the 12 oz bottles are $0.50/oz and the big bottles are $0.72/oz.
