That's never made any sense to me. You can't have a glass of KBS while picking up your beer. In other words, no KBS on tap during the KBS release event. AKA "KBS Week." For those driving from hours away to visit Founders and pick up their beer, sorry, no KBS on tap. Huh?

Its to make sure the businesses that have supported Founders for so long get some traffic while there's an influx of people heading to Founders.

So when I walk in and think "hmm, I drove 3 hours for this annual release event and they have nothing interesting on tap, I guess I'll go to Hopcat", that's by design? This year looks better, but I think it was 2013 when I got there and there wasn't a single Class 3 beer on tap.

I understand their motivation for only letting the local bars have KBS during the lead-up, but I'm with you on the "No Class 3" issue - same thing happened to me last time I went to pickup, that was frustrating. Not really having time to go to another bar, I turned around and drove home.

Hit the Downtown Market, there's a bunch of different food places so no matter what you feel like having there'll be something that'll hit the spot. Slows usually has a decent taplist as well in case you didn't get enough beer at Founder's haha

Any advice as to a dog friendly place to grab some lunch? I'm headed up tomorrow from Chicago burbs and am bringing my dog with, due to nobody being able to watch her. Figured I'd grab some fast food but looking for quick lunch ideas where the dog would be cool in the car for a few minutes.

Oh man! No Class 3 beers?? I would have burned the place to the ground while screaming "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!?! I'M ON BEERADVOCATE AND I DROVE 3 HOURS TO PICK UP AND DRINK BARREL-AGED BEER!! HOW DARE YOU ONLY SERVE PALE ALES!!!"

Right, it's by design. It allows Founders to support the local accounts that sell their beer. That seems pretty cool, no?

There will be plenty of good things to drink at Founders, you will have a bunch of fresh KBS bottles to drink if you desperately need KBS, and there will be several places around GR you can get it.

"Nothing interesting on tap" seems to mostly mean no whalez and not actually nothing interesting. Their tap list as of when I'm putting up this post has 12 things that, as far as I know, are taproom only.

It wasn't so much a problem with the styles, etc. - they had almost nothing available that I couldn't have bought off the shelf at a store a block from my house. I don't need some extreme BA Whale, but it would be nice to have a few taproom-only offerings on a day where they know a lot of people are coming from out of town, people who don't often get the opportunity to try those beers.

If you need some food and another beer and are heading out of town, check out Monellis in Wyoming which is right off the highway or Hops84East if you are heading back towards Illinois, they are in Holland. Both usually have great tap lists and keep them up to date.

I'm heading up for a wedding Saturday and thought I lucked out it's KBS week at the same time but sounds like it's less attractive to go to Founders when they're not even serving KBS. I'm sure we'll still go since I've never been and been waiting to go for awhile, but a little disappointed. I can still get in without tickets, just can't buy KBS right? I think I'm going to hold off and buy my KBS at home. I don't need how much they're including in the ticket packages and I'm not a big trader.

I didn't make the rules...they did! PLUS: They usually have some great other beers on tap. Last year I discovered Spike Cutlass...great stuff!

Yes that is absolutely by design. When they started this KBS Week a couple of years ago they stated that they wanted to use the week to highlight "Beer City" so that people from all around would see what a great place Grand Rapids is. They want to showcase the entire city which is why there are tappings all throughout town during the week forcing people to go see the great bars in the area & not just sit at Founders

It's like you live in Indiana or some stupid state that doesn't allow beer purchases on sundays.....

HA! I didn't think there was an option for Sunday pickup AND you have to pick up the same day you got the ticket for.
