I wouldn't determine your appreciation for KBS based on FBS. I like FBS, but for my tastes there are several better coffee stouts available.

KBS, however, is one of my absolute favorite beers -- if not the favorite.

But to answer your question, if you were so lucky as to get two four-packs then I would do so in a heartbeat (unless you just wanted to leave one for a fellow beer geek).

I watched someone pay $70 for a 4-pack at the release. Leaving any KBS on the shelf at $20/4-pack would be a crime. Buy it and share it with friends as they are sure to appreciate it.

Yeah, that makes sense. And I could always trade it if for some reason I don't love it.

Not sure if you're planning on getting 2 4-packs at Sam's but the chances of that are slim. Last year it was one 4-pack per person limit at every store in the RDU area and if the rumors about lesser allotments are true I'd guess most places will have a 1-2 bottle limit per person.

Don't mean to rain on your parade but just didn't want you to get your hopes up for snagging 8 bottles - I'll consider myself lucky if I manage to get 2 this year.

I've never had it, so I'm not going crazy either way. But I'll try to go to a few spots and grab what I can. I'm willing to gamble on the reviews.

    Thanks for the advice.

Folks at Bestway in Greensboro say that they will most likely be selling by the bottle b/c of limited quantities. $5 range. Don't know what the limit will be.

Fwiw, there are 55 cases of KBS for the triangle. When you factor in new shops that have opened in the last year and the number of founders accounts in the area, that is not a lot to go around.

That is actually better than what I thought it would be. I've never purchased so I had no reference point for what it was like in previous years, but yep there are definitely more bottle shops around these days to split the distribution. We all know who will get the biggest allocation though.

And cases are 16 bottles or 24?

24 bottles/case. If that 55 case allotment for the triangle is true I'm guessing most shops won't get more than 1-2 cases. I'd expect 1-2 bottle limits...

    They released early? That's lame.

You think there are 30-40 bottle shops in the triangle that get Founders special releases? That seems so high to me, but maybe some smaller places get stuff, too.

This is what I was wondering. I was thinking 8-12 MAX, with one getting a much higher allocation that the rest. But again I wasn't looking for it last year so I don't know if the Whole Foods and the Total Wines of the area got any. Even if they did that number would still be pretty small. I was thinking shops that would see Better Half or CBS would see KBS, and that is it.

does the 55 case allotment include bars and taprooms? If so the amount the bottle shops get will be even less.

We're talking about Sam's getting the higher allocation, right?

BA has 10 stores listed in the Triangle, by the way. They're missing the Total Wine right near me, for sure. But even if they're missing half of the stores, that's only 20 total. And I'm not even sure if Whole Foods and Total Wine will get this, at least not at all of the locations.

This is what could be the difference, I would think. Millltown is supposed to have a big Founders event, including KBS and CBS. I would have thought they'd get a keg, but if not, maybe they're eating up a couple of cases, plus Tyler's, some of the places in Raleigh, etc.

Yep, surely Sam's will get the larger allotment. I'd place a bet that only a couple of the Total Wine shops get it if at all.
