I'm going to be in KC this week for work, and anticipate a lot of barbecue on the agenda. Any suggestions for a place with good/very good barbecue and a good beer list? Went to Q39 last time and had a Tallgrass 16 bit (their online menu said they had Perennial, but no luck - food was excellent).

Check out Char Bar located in Westport. The food and beer list is excellent! Be warned though, the servers are all hipsters and a few of them are not good at their jobs....just sayin. The building is kinda cool too

Also if you like burgers then try Beer Kitchen

The last two times I was at Jack Stack they had The Calling on tap. Its not rare or a super exciting "find". I think that beer is pretty good in bottles, but I really like it on tap...and jack stack's beans might be my favorite food. Its a good combo.

I usually go to Kansas City Joe's. Not a really impressive tap list, it's really just some standard domestic and Boulevard offerings, but it's my favorite BBQ. Plus they have one of my favorite Boulevard brews, Boulevard's Irish Ale, on tap around St. Pat's.

Second Char Bar. Went in their for a beer (didn't get any food), but I was pleasantly surprised by their tap list.

It seams you have visited Q39, I suggest going there again, the wait is longer now but the beer is still small but solid. You might also try Smokin Guns in Northtown. Not a bad selection and some pretty darn good bbq.

I've been to char bar and q39 so far this week. Char bar had more variety (I'm talking about draft here, didn't look into bottles); seasonals seemed to be winter warmers. Q39 had almost the exact same tap list as my visit a month ago, which was disappointing; I would have expected more turnover. That said, the barbecue at Q39 was much better than that at Char Bar.

Not a ton of places that combine good BBQ and beer now that you mention it. My suggestion would be grab a plate to go from Smoking Guns up north and then take it on over to Cinder Block. Should be a 30 second drive between the two and Cinder block lets you bring in your own food. All going to be in house beer, but they have some solid choices and a nice patio.
