Thanks for my weekly reminder that i need to get my ass to MacLeod Ales .
Everyone in Southern California do the same .

Cask Ale is what a real beer should be .
One of my dreams is to have Landlord on Cask

I just got done watching their latest cask ale video (Episode 6) and as always it was well done by Jonny & Brad. As a fan of Real Ale (I will once again be homebrewing my annual batch of Bitter Ale in a couple/few months) I do hope that their efforts to keep cask beer alive and going (and even growing?) is successful. Fingers crossed.

    Cheers to Real Ale!

Below is the second installment of the 2025 video series (another great video by Jonny & Brad). One of the ‘stops’ in this video is Fuller’s Brewery located in London. I have ‘passed by’ the brewery while traveling on the A4 during business trips and I always wished I had the time to stop and look around the brewery. I suppose a beercation is in order. I am a fan of Fuller’s ESB and I have homebrewed Bitter Ales with the Fuller’s house ale yeast (Wyeast 1968) a few times and while I enjoyed the flavor profile the ‘performance’ of the yeast (flocculates too early for my preferences) in my homebrewery is less than desirable.

    Cheers!

P.S. I was a little disappointed to learn in this video that Chiswick Bitter was discontinued.

I'm watching the first episode of this series now. It's interesting to me that they identify cask's lower price tag (as compared to a regular keg draft) as one of the factors contributing to its decline. They specifically say that a typical pint from a keg runs about five quid, while a typical pint of cask costs four. As someone who loves craft, I would be perfectly fine with it being more expensive than regular keg draft. I'm guessing that's not the case in the UK, but why? Do folks there expect cask to be less expensive? Has cask always been cheaper? Honestly, and this most certainly comes from a place of enormous privilege and ignorance, if I were to go to a pub in England and see cask as more expensive than regular draft, I'd be fine with it.

The Cost at Macleod is 10 dollars for 20oz of any Cask ale they have on tap.

Regular draft pours go for about 9 per 16oz

and I'm perfectly fine with that

Just spent a few days in London and had Landlord on Cask and it was exactly as good as anticipated.

Just looked that brewery up. Hot damn. I want 20 oz. of that Yorkshire Pale followed by 20 oz. of that Oatmeal stout like nobody's business.

I consumed a lot of cask beer in the UK but that was back in the 90's. Since I always purchased cask ale and avoided keg beer during those numerous visits I only knew the price of cask ale which was typically around 1.7 pounds at that time (cheaper than draft beer near me in the US at the time).

I have no idea about draft beer economics in the UK today. Maybe @WhatANicePub can provide us with an education in this matter?

    Cheers!

Yorkshire Square, or Barley Square as it’s now called, made a tribute to the Landlord, called the Tenant, that was really good, I haven’t seen it in a while but it was worth seeking out.

I despise the drive to Torrance from downtown LA. haven't been out that way since 2023 and i don't plan on changing that . do they make anything worth possibly commiting suicide in traffic over?

Glad I saw this. I really enjoyed the first series and look forward to digging into this one. Also a good reminder that I haven't had a cask pour in far too long. Perhaps I can remedy that later this week.
    Thanks for posting!
