Like others have said, I've come to the conclusion there is no reason to buy from breweries where the per bottle cost is almost 2x or sometimes more then the average price for the style. There are plenty of good and great beers on the shelf even when you eliminate the pricey options

For instance I see local place just got Citra Session IPA in stock, but $6.19 for one bottle of an IPA, its not going to be that much better the Sculpin bottle or local IPAs I could get a growler for example

I buy everyone one of their stouts, but that's about it.

Good choice! I too get excited when I see any of their stouts around. I honestly think every single one has been great! (I was a little weirded out by Beer Geek Day dream, the "white" stout, but have loved all of the rest.)

I've enjoyed the Mikkeler collaboration beers I've had (Black Flame, Majsgoop, Limon Cello IPA), much more than the few Mikkeler solo branded stuff (BGBW, Jackie Brown, Black Hole).

I stock them, as best I can, and cannot keep up with all of the offerings. They have a dizzying selection of products, awesome, but dizzying.

I've had great beers from them, average beers, and straight up beers with mold growing under the cap. At the end of the day, you should have a strong urge to try what ever beer you are about to buy (duh), but especially Mikkeller since their cost per ounce is ridiculous.

Note: I've had many beers that were over 5 years old and never ever once had a mold issue with any of them, with Mikkeller it has happened 3 times.

I'm a fan of Mikkeller. Usually try to stay with their stouts and sours/lambics. They are expensive as most everyone has mentioned but I'd say most are worth it. Now if NJ would only get their stuff. Damn Shelton Bros.

Heading over to the bottle shop in Copenhagen in Oct. I am excited to try some of beers fresh as opposed to waiting to get them shipped and then sold here.

Fangirl here! Despite the price point, I will almost always take the chance on them. Brunch Weasel is AMAZING, and I adore the Spontan series.

I'll pass over Imperial Biscotti Break for $18 all day everyday even though I like it. The BA version on the other hand...

Mikkeller has brewed some of my all time favorites and some of the worst beers I've ever had and everything else in between.

Mikkeller seems more like a chemistry experiment than a brewer. In my mind they seem so disconnected from reality I can't work up the interest to try them. The bar in San Francisco had an intriguing line-up on tap, but the noise and the drunks spraying urine on the sidewalks of the Tenderloin will keep me from visiting again, unless I happen to get off the streetcar at the wrong stop in the early afternoon.

I never bought Mikkeller beers before I went to Copenhagen and I've only brought Beer Geek Brunch since. I really do love the brewery and its ethos, but I can't justify spending those prices on beers that are hit and miss.

Mikkeller kind of has a brewpub type vibe where there is an ever evolving selection of beers, but on a commercial scale. This works for the brewpubs because you have quick turnover on beer and the next time you get to the brewpub, you're likely to have something completely different. The problem, on a commercial scale, is that the variety is just sensory overload. You have so many different beers to choose from and to decipher what it is, you can't really decide. Plus, it's really expensive. I think from a brand stand point, not proliferating a couple beers makes it hard to really get into. The fact that many of the beers aren't brewed here is a turn off, especially concerning freshness (that may change now with the SD brewery). I really do love Mikkeller from a brewpub stand point though. I'm not sure it works on a commercial scale though.

I mainly like them for the artwork. Passing up the bottles for when they release a book with all the artwork/beers they've released so far.

EDIT: What happened to the Fantome collaboration?
