They bought some Hungarian Oak barrels – aged the base for Spontanale on it, the resul was of an exceptionally high quality, they named it differently & sold it as HUES.

    Very nice beer.

I buy any lower priced Mikkeller that I haven’t seen before & some of the more expensive ones. I am a fan.

I have had 191 of their beers so far. As far as keeping up, some Danish guy are close to having had everything. Very few of us are keeping up, given that some beers are sold only in certain countries, bars, etc. these days, keeping up is virtually impossible now.

Hillariously they are still likely being shipped since the vast majority of them are brewed in Belgium.

Haha I'm a fanboy myself for the Beer Geek and Spontan series. Currently have had 3 of them and have 11 different vareties in the cellar. Part of me subconsciously is trying to collect as many as possible for a really nice photo, but I know I'll never be able to find them all.

They are so hit or miss that it isn't worth the price of admission.

I was lucky enough to stop by their bar when I was in Reykjavik last September. It's a small little place tucked away in an attic basically above a pizza restaurant (??). I loved the feel to the place. Tiny and quiet with a great selection of Mikkeller brews and some great guest cans and bottles, as well. I was able to some Big Worster (Chardonnay barrel aged) as well as a bourbon barrel version of the Beer Geek Breakfast and a few others. It was pricey, but I also chalk that in part up to alcohol being expensive all throughout Iceland. It was totally worth it, though.

But I do have to agree they're fairly hit or miss. I had their Hr. Fredericksen collaboration stout a few months ago and really did not care for it. Same for Black Flame (the Three Floyds collab)....I had to dump that one after a pour or so.

But the Beer Geek stouts are frequently great. At this point, they're really the only thing I regularly get from Mikkeller. Specifically the Vanilla and Dessert. Two excellent dessert beers.

I've been to there bar in Seoul few times, if you try 10, you get like 3 or 4 good. I really like the Mikkeller's dark beers like beer geek series or George! or something else, but I always find out that the original one is better than the BA ones. And damn they are pricey!

Have to agree regarding the BA versions. Have had a few Beer Geeks and a George and preferred the original every time.
Having said that, every time I've had a BA stout of theirs I've not tried the base of I've still enjoyed it a lot.

Spontan series is the only thing worthwhile from him imo

Could you recommend some nice Spontans? Tried 3 of them and found out the most pricey one is the best.

Frederiksdal is one of the best sours that I've had and probably one of the best beers too. For the most part, if you know the fruit or eat it regularly then you'll like that spontan. The more obscure the ingredient, the weirder and worse it is. Seabuckthorn is one of the worst beers I've ever had. Haven't had any of the double or triple ones though. Would love to try a BA one like, spontansauternes though.

Only had a few of theirs but the Beer Geeks I've had and the Spontan Series that I've had were all phenomenal.

The only Mikkeller beers I've ever bothered seeking out have been the Beer Geek stouts which have been hit or miss at the price point.

As a "gypsy Brewer", Mikkeller has a drastically different and sometimes frustrating way of brewing and distributing their beers. Everything they do is a one off, so I don't really think we are supposed to try to keep up with or follow everything they release. However, I have had several offerings from the beer geek line that are fantastic, as well as the spontan series.

well yes, that's what the brochure says at least. I believe at this point in the game the gentleman probably has a few designated proxy locations he knows he can make a good product at.

The only way to try everything is to order from him online and be able to travel across the world on a whim. Even excluding draft-only (even just bar/restaurant exclusives at that), it is nigh but impossible to keep up with.

Also, there is now the Mikkeller Beer Club, which is shrouded in secrecy. There could be new beers in there every month or so, but you have to rely on those who are members to self-report the contents of each month's shipment. I've tried to get a list of what they've sent out each month since it's started, but I haven't found anyone that is a member of it.

Anyone here ordered from his website? I really want a copy of his book, just to see all those beers in one spot.
