I'm having an issue with a keg of beer not carbonating. It is a wild sumac saison. It is in a keg that I have used before. I have had it at serving psi for 4-5 weeks now and it is still very lowly carbonated (almost no carbonation at all). There appears to be CO2 going into the keg though. I can hear it go in when I attach the CO2 hose and the beer pours out of the tap without an issue. There's CO2 in there putting the beer under pressure, but the beer just does not seem to be absorbing enough to become fully carbonate. Anyone have any thoughts? Should I crank the psi and see what happens? should I transfer to a different keg? I am a little bit at a loss for what the best solution would be. Any advice you guys can give would be appreciated. Thanks!

Appears that your regulator is working but not applying the pressure it says it is.

    • If you have been hooked up for weeks and the tank is not empty we can assume no leaks.
    • If you can hear gas, and the beer dispenses from the keg, there is gas in the keg.
    • If the regulator is telling you 10 psi it is likely the gauge is bad. Replacements are a few bucks. It's a 1/4" threaded pressure gauge. They can be found at a hardware store that has well pump supplies, but a proper CO2 gauge should read 0-30 psi and not 0-100.

Try turning it up a few cranks, and wait. It could be that the regulator is shot as well. Not uncommon, b ut it doesn't seem to be the case here.

Also your beer with Sumac may be "thin". Sometimes a brew does not have a lot of malt protien to hold much head or any head at all. It could be carbonated but not holding any head, like a soda.

    Cheers.

What exactly is "serving psi" and what temperature is the keg at?
