I'm helping a friend clean up a kegerator that is about 5 years old. Already going to replace the regulator as I've read they go bad after about 5 years (She says CO2 has been leaking). Since we are ordering parts, does the Keg Coupler ever go bad? Already replacing the hoses.
It has gaskets on it that go bad, but you can buy those. You may also want to check on the back flow ball inside to make sure it isn't dirty or fouled. You can run it without that if you don't want to replace it. If it is plated brass and there is brass exposed you should consider ditching it. Other than that not much to look at. Get longer beer lines, go with 10' to start. They are cheap and can be cut back later.
Agreed if brass is showing or an unknown brand with hard crusty seals just replace . Why risk expensive beer over $30 parts ?
Hey Doug, Thanks a bunch for the help. Since we are ordering, would it be cheaper to just buy new lines? This isn't for a home-brew setup as she is just looking to buy 1/6s from local breweries.
Yes, definitely buy new lines. Line is cheap, and as a matter of good maintenance you should change them every so often anyway. Some do it every 6 months, I go 12-14. Start with 10' per line. You should take note of how the existing lines are attached both on the coupler side and tower side to determine if you need to buy any fittings. If they are held on by worm clamps you are good to go, if held on by crimp fittings you will need to get a few odds and ends to make it work.
