Picnic faucets are to kegs as o-rings are to the Space Shuttle : (

I never quit bottling, although I have moved away from it for most beers. I actually bottled a Berliner Weiss this morning. I don't mind that bottling takes a little extra effort, and I like the simplicity that comes with not needing to know about various kegging bits and bobs, but I would probably brew less frequently if I did not keg. Storing kegs and kegged beer is easier than bottles and bottled beer.

It would appear that you just need to 'upgrade' to a more reliable faucet now. I am pretty sure that you do not want a repeat performance of losing 5 gallons of homebrew.

    Cheers!

I must have missed something or used too weak a solution.

I had the same thing happen last year, picnic tap failure, lost a full 5 gallons of recently kegged IPA. Needless to say, I picked up some faucets and converted my fridge to a kegerator pronto after that, lol. Those picnic taps always were a pain to deal with, but it took a loss of a full batch of beer for me to bite the bullet and upgrade. Fortunately for me, my keg fridge is in the basement near the floor drain, so most of it just went down the drain.

I had my first kegged batch pretty much go to waste, (dirty bastard clone) because i had the liquid poppet go bad and beer shot out the keg like a damn geyser. Not to mention, i had much of it blow all over my kegerator and much of it hit me in the *face*... What a shitty day!!!!

Did you taste the puddle before drain pouring?

I had taken the chance to sample the beer over the last few weeks. It was the Two-Hearted kit that I converted to more of a pale ale. It was starting to taste delicious. I lost 2-3 gallons of it. I know it tasted good before leaking out, I know the puddle made my chest freezer smell great, I know the stuff that I poured out of my wet/dry vac (yes, @skivtjerry, I do own one) had great head retention, but I never thought to taste it. I'm kicking myself, now, because it could be that the taste improved after a day outside the keg, in the bottom of my freezer, and then, getting wet-vac filtered, it could be awesome. I'm starting to wonder if I should treat all my beers this way. Of course, now that I bleached out the keezer, it would probably impart a medicinal taste on future beers treated this way. Should have used Star-San.

I had this happen on an APA at the end of Summer. I had the keg hooked up to CO2 in the ferm fridge on DHs and came out to a small creek leading from my fridge to under the brewlounge built in the back 1/2 of the garage. I was not happy about the mess, although the loss wasn't bad since I drain poured that entire batch anyways. I no longer keep the picnic tap hooked up on any beers anymore unless I am pouring. I only keep my full taps connected in the keezer.

As far as cost is concerned, you don't have to pay $50 per tap+shank for Perrilick, I got 2 of the chrome on brass with shank for that price.
