A question for you keg hoppers: is it OK to add hops to the keg after the beer's been carbonated?

I've keg-hopped a few times but I've always done it as the beer was carbonating. I'm a little worried about dropping the hops (in a bag) into a carbonated keg, thinking that adding all those nucleation points might result in god knows what. Anybody know from experience?

Haven't tried this, but do it fast and make sure to purge the keg a few times to get rid of any oxygen that could have gotten in. I'd imagine you would have similar results as if you dropped a hop pellet into a bottle of beer fwiw.

Don't do it. From experience of having done it once, you will have beer all over your floor. As you mentioned with all those nucleation sites you will have a volcano coming out of your keg.

Thanks, you probably saved me five gallons worth of decent (if a slightly underhopped) beer.

You could probably do it if you drank close to a gallon first. Shove them in there really fast and close up the lid. Purge a few times. With a full keg as I said you're asking for trouble.
