I lost a bet and in order to pay up that bet, I need to get a keg of Bell's Two-Hearted from Michigan down to New Orleans. Bell's doesn't ship to Louisiana, so I need to find an alternative. I contacted the TSA and they said that I could check the keg in as checked luggage and it wouldn't matter that its a quarter or half barrel of beer. However, Delta says I have to pay a $200 baggage fee for a quarter barrel because its more than the allowable 70 pounds but less than 100 pounds. I'm allowed 3 free pieces of luggage and the keg would be the only luggage I'm bringing, so I thought I'd be allowed to check in one bag at 83 pounds, but I guess not. Has anyone shipped a keg via UPS or FedEx? I'm assuming that's not legal. I have about 5 weeks until I fly out, and 4 weeks until I need to order the keg.

It's illegal and if they find out its booze they will confinscate it. They will then probably have a great time drinking it.:astonished:

Just drive it. Or meet the guy halfway in St Louis or Memphis.

I've also taken the train to New Orleans from Chicago a couple of times. It's long but not bad and no weight limit.

You could always ship LTL from Saia/Estes or the like, might only be a couple hundred bucks.

Greyhound bus service might be able to ship it for you, it's something to look into.

This is what happens when you drink too many Two Hearted.

Have you thought about checking with other airlines. I wouldn't be surprised if Southwest were willing to work with you.

Bell's distributes to Alabama and Missouri, so maybe there is a possibility of having the keg ordered thru a bottle shop in either of those states and then picked-up by your bet winner with just a relatively short drive from New Orleans.

Let me clarify something, I am flying to New Orleans for a guy's trip away from the wives and kids. I think I found a couple places that can ship 3 cases of the 16-ounce cans right to the house that we rented. I'm hoping that this technicality is something that the bet winner can overlook since its just like having 72 mini kegs, and actually its more fluid ounces than a half barrel. And the bet I lost was picking Michigan State to cover the 12-point spread against Oregon. I was blinded by being so faithful to my Spartans.

    Better check your math:

    1 cs. of 24 cans of 16 oz. cans = 384 oz. = 3 gallons X 3 cs. = 9 gallons
    ½ barrel = 15.5 gallons

I'm sorry but why can't he just crate it up and FedEx it again? Yeah it's against FedEx policy, but we all do it every week right?

Have you tried posting in the South forum here to see if a college student, business person or vacationer could help your cause . As mentioned Bell's distributes in Alabama . I would try to buy cases of Two Hearted and see if a Bell's sampler pack could be used added settle the bet.

I live in AL. Two Hearted is pretty easy to find especially in Birmingham and you might could even find it in Mobile as well. I know that HopCity in Birmingham sells kegs. You could see if they could get you the keg then just have to arrange transportation from Birmingham to New Orleans. Better yet would be to find out if there were a store in Mobile that could get you a keg since it's much closer to NOLA. Fly into Mobile and rent a car...NOLA is a couple of hours away from there by car.
