    A. Craigslist "rideshare." I've sent cases of beer in the back of a pick up from Texas to Illinois for $20. Takes a bit of trust.

    B. UShip. They moved a Harley for me from TX to Indiana. Basically deadhead truckers looking to fill space on an empty truck that needs to go from A to B. Harley cost me about $300.

    Don't they have two-hearted in those mini-kegs?

If you do this, you'd better make damn sure that empty keg goes back to the brewery. Bell's owns their own cooperage, and lost kegs are the bane of every brewery's existence. It costs them a shitload of money, and that's one less keg they can fill & sell.

lol Really?? how serious is this guy to force you to fly all those miles and pay all that just for a bet?? Time for new friends. I would never have someone go though all that work. At least bring a keg of Hopslam or something. TH is great and all, but it's a shelf turd around these parts.

I respect the OP's position. If I lost a bet, I would "pay up" per the terms regardless of how ridiculous or difficult. If it were too ridiculous or difficult, I should not have take the bet. If the OP were to welch, the "winner of the bet" should be the one looking for a new friend. JMHO

I would be looking for new friends if I were the OP. Requiring this amount of effort & money to "pay up" is just fucking ridiculous as far as I'm concerned. Better yet, why not just buy a keg of something in New Orleans that you can't get in Michigan? Less money, less hassle & most importantly you're still getting drunk.

Isn't that the point of paying a deposit on a keg?

I wonder what he would have won if the spread was covered....

Order 2 kegs, book a train ticket, tap 1 keg on the train ride down, Profit!

Yep, but sadly $30 deposit is a fraction of what a keg actually costs, let alone the cost of lost revenues from that keg being out of circulation.

And if an individual is willing to look into the logistics of getting an out of market keg onto an airplane over a bet, i'd hazard a guess and say that the deposit isnt of the highest concern. Hence my post reminding us all about the toll this takes on the brewery.

"No "? The point of a deposit is so you'll return the keg to get your deposit back.

If @maximthegreat meant one could keep the keg because the deposit is paid, then I agree with "No".

Thanks for clarifying. I was purposefully succinct with my response because I assumed he was inferring that by paying the deposit, you don't have to return the keg and all is well and good which is @Vav was clearly advising against being the "bane of every brewery's existence."

The deposit is an incentive to return the keg, yes, but by no means makes it okay with the brewery if you don't return the keg.

Assuming you and your friend have deep enough pockets to make this bet, I would rent a car, drive the keg down and fly back. Seems like a lot less hassle.

I'd just crate the keg, fedex it then take it back as a carry on on the plane. You'll get some fantastic looks rolling through the airport with an empty keg.

If he drives down with Dom DeLuise as fast as he can, he can call it Quarterbarrel Run.

Not sure that keg would get through security. When you "kick" a keg you rarely if ever get all the liquid out. If security feels that liquid rolling around in there, they might not let you carry it on. Maybe you'd have to check it.

A new half barrel is around $120 (maybe a little less if you buy in bulk), deposit does not cover that. Breweries hate lost cooperage, as it is a drain on the finances.

I am bringing the keg home with me. Since it will weigh less than 70 pounds during the flight home, it won't cost me anything.
