you are going to want to keep that keg cold. or at least not warm. and definitely not hot.
something about unpasteurized keg beer traveling the south, New Orleans none the less...

    this does not end well.

also, forget about traveling with a half barrel. not unless your name is Arnold. a quarter perhaps, but even then you are dragging about 80 pounds of unwieldy luggage with you.

just pay the guy a hundred bucks and call it even already.
    Cheers.

I can't help but notice that the logistics of this bet weren't clearly thought trough. At one point in this bet did you or your friend think that shipping an entire keg from Chicago to NWE Orleans. would be sure stupidity

You could always post on BA and get some sort of relay going. Each guy gets one pull off the keg. Most of it should make it to New Orleans!

This bet was made while drinking a keg of Two-Hearted, so no it was not perfectly thought out. To clear up one thing, I was already going to New Orleans for the guy's trip. The keg will be my wingman for the flight down. As for the question about being Arnold to bring a half-barrel, I can buy a $40 roller to get it around the airport. This bet is getting more and more expensive!!! I think I'll but the quarter barrel ($100 + $30 deposit), then pay the $200 for the overweight luggage and call it a day.

I wish I could say this at some point in my life.

It might be possible to ship fedex or ups if you say its a keg of cold brew coffee. I don't think they would tap to see if its beer or not

Amtrak and Greyhound both do freight shipping at very low prices. Amtrak limited to 50 lb except at larger stations like Chicago where they can use forklift with a pallet. Also might freeze. Greyhound is 100 lb limit I think, and would stay warmer under the bus.

So for FedEx, I'm looking at some astronomical rates? Anywhere between $300-$500 to ship, and they can't guarantee a time when it'll show up because of the package size. Greyhound is $105, but again the timing is sketchy. If I flew with it, it would run me $200. It seems like FedEx is out. Greyhound is an option but with their "no alcohol" policy, how hard would it be to get a keg of beer through without inspection?

I would find a store that ships to Louisiana, and see if they would ship a keg. The first place I would call is France44. Ask them if they would ship a keg. They ship to Louisiana, but idk if they will ship a keg. They have the best shipping rates of any other beer store I've seen. If they can't ship one, then I would call some other stores.
