Back in December my edgestar with digital thermostat started going haywire and freezing my legs regardless of what the digital thermostat was set at.

After defrosting and restarting the unit it still began to freeze the kegs so I installed an inkbird temp controller to override the units thermostat.

Since December it has worked well. It's been in the mid 90s here in western ny the last several days and even with an a/c unit it's been pretty warm in my attic where the unit is kept.

Last night At midnight I awoke to the inkbird alarm going off for the first time ever for a high temp. Probe value was reading 39.9f (alarm setting is 39f). I silenced the alarm and since the inkbird indicated it was cooling and the kegerators digital thermostat was illuminated I figured it would be back into range by this morning.

This morning before work the probe value was reading 41f and the kegerators digital thermostat was on but I can't hear it running and the unit isn't warm at all on the sides (like it usually is when the compressor/thermostat kicks on).

For the hell of it I bumped the actual kegerator digital thermostat down for 5c (default setting when the unit cycles on and off) to 1c. I heard the compressor kick on and the inkbird probe temp was down to 38.8f before I left for work.

Is it possible my inkbird is shot and no longer triggering the compressor to turn on? Is my compressor possibly failing or need a recharge? Any other ideas to troubleshoot. I may reach out to a small appliance repair if need be but not sure if the cost would outweigh buying a replacement

From your description your kegerator's thermostat (the one freezing your kegs) is more than bonkers... it's erractically bonkers.i.e. sometimes it freezes the keg, sometimes it commands an "off" signal when it's warm. In my experience this type problem rarely self-heals.
