So, a friend of mine connected me with a guy who is selling a kegerator with a full system including the CO2 and an empty commercial keg shell.

I want to make sure it actually works but with an empty keg we can't pull any fluid out of it.

Is there a way to test the system without having a full keg?

    Thanks,

Put water in it. (It doesn't have to be full.)

5 gallon bucket full of water works.

I think he is asking if the system will actually dispense beer.

to see if it can maintain temps, place a bucket of water inside the unit a run for a few hours, then check the temperature. the unit should be able to hold below 38 degrees. if it doesn't, pass.

you can't actually pour anything without a cold keg that has beer in it. but all of the hardware can be replaced fairly easily if needed. you are going to replace the beer line at a minimum. the faucet and coupler will cost $75 to $100.
    Cheers.
