I recently converted a refrigerator into a kegerator for my garage. My problem is when we open the freezer door without opening the lower door first it hits my tap handle and pours beer all over. I dont like to waste my beer so i need a way to attach both doors together. Any one else have this problem and what did you do to take care of it. Thanks in advance.

The way you positioned the shank there really isn't any other option other than opening the fridge with the freezer. Even the short plastic handles wouldn't clear that. If you connect them, then any time you are servicing the kegs you need to open the freezer, unless you are willing to disconnect them occasionally.

I'm not too worried about opening the freezer door when I have to service the keg. Was looking for ideas to attach the two doors. Im only keeping mugs in the freezer. Thanks for your reply.

Then get a piece of metal and some sheet metal screws and attach the two doors together on the edge opposite the hinge. BTW a frozen glass will cause foam. The beer needs constant temperature from keg to glass which would suggest a chilled glass from the fridge is the way to go.

I hate to rip on you. I really do. Especially after the fine job you did centering the drip tray, etc. But that picture is priceless!:flushed:

What dougC said..get a strip of metal and secure it to the freezer door, with a length down to the fridge door(on the inside) This way when you open the fridge to service the kegs, the freezer stays closed. When you open the freezer door, the metal will also open the frdige and not pour the beer. Friend did the exact same thing and works like a charm

At Home Depot they sell these special brackets designed to connect wooden beams in construction, and they come in many different shapes and sizes. I'd say one on the side of the door and a couple more trough the front will do the trick. Your problem now becomes drilling into the door, I guess one of the epoxies like QuikSteel or something along those lines over the bolts would seal completely. Probably not pretty, but will solve the issue. That or develop mug pulling reflexes like a fox!

Or you could, oh I dunno, move the shank lower.

Yeah, what he said. Although you will also have to lower the drip tray if you want to run the nice handles. Maybe not if you go with the generic plastic one.
