So when my keg runs out it takes 3 days to a week to get a new keg. Letting it sit for a few days the nozzle gums up and be I have to soak it in hot water for several minutes to free it up. Any advice?
I’ve never had a home keg set up. not sure what your set up is. I would think you would want to keep things cleaned regularly just to avoid off-flavors and funky contamination at the bung. If you have hot running water close by, that’s a good thing. I remember one of my Uncles had a keg, his tap was mounted in the door on an old fridge, shelves removed, that he kept in a small room off the kitchen. Not being closer to the running water was always a little bit of a PITA. Additionally, my cousin and her husband had a couple of kegs in a Bar/Game Room/Home Theater they built above their detached garage. Initially they had the same issue, no running water, a dry sink in the bar was it. I helped them change the keg once it was a pain not having running water, had to bring buckets from the house. (eventually they brought plumbing for the bar sink and a wash room in from the house though). I would consider dropping the setup in a bucket of hot water with a little commercial tap and line cleaner as soon as you disconnect it. Then it would be ready to go when you brought the new keg in for hook up.
You should be cleaning the lines and disassembling the faucet every few weeks for sanitary reasons. A forward sealing faucet will also reduce sticking because there is no mechanism exposed to the air like there is with a rear sealing faucet. This does not eliminate the need to clean.
