What was the release for this last time? It seems like the 5th Anny has been hanging around and is still available for purchase. Is Citra relatively easy to get when it's released or is it a release event type thing? Just curious cuz I freaking love that stuff.
From what I've gathered, its not so much that they release very little or its a crazy release, just that the brewery is really out of the way and secluded, so its not close to many BA's.
Yeah, the hardest part is finding someone who is going. The bottles themselves don't require too too much to land from what I've seen.
I have gone to every single release, citra and 5th anniversary and the distribution structure varies. The 320 mile drive from LA area up to Kern is a noteworthy obstacle, once there its 6 per person, 1 growler fill per person. As far as distribution goes, Kern 5th initially did not see distribution in the most recent release approx 1000 bottles were sent to cover the entire socal area. same set up 6:1 on this and it hung around longer, citra bottles at the brewery last about 1-2 days. I have traded the following 1:1 for Citra: BA Blackout Westy 12 (2007) Event Horizon 4:1 for a Zomer I hope this information is relevant to your interests.
They just announced all 120 cases will be sold at the brewery the weekend of the 23rd. No distribution or growler fills this one around.
On the plus side, once you're there you can go rafting, then come back and drink pints of Citra. That was a fun day.
Even when distributed, it's a one case per store, one bottle per person thing and your timing has to be right. This stuff is going to be stupid hard to get this time around with the brewery only release and only about 1,000 bottles produced and KRBC located smack dab at the intersection of where? and nowhere.
Ironically all these limited releases are starting to make me look more to the great locals we can get. My trading has REALLY gone down to almost none at this point. It's nice to tick but ironically I think everybody realizes in the end that they could have just saved shipping and found something really similar.
That's the dirty truth of it all. I've found a few standout winners, but much of the hyped stuff I've tried from around the country doesn't blow me away compared to some local things. I generally trade more for the fun of it than hunting down whales. That's why I love BIFs - I don't care what I get it and not knowing makes it great.
