There were a few other beer-specific threads started, but no general one, so I figured this may work. Anyway, I went there for NYE and loved the experience as every other time. There sadly was not Citra keg around but the beer that really surprised me was the new Coffee Stout. It doesn't have a name I think, but they do growler fills of it and it's super tasty. I hope we can get some kegs down to OC/IE. Other than that there were plenty od bottles available: the new bottled-batch of Gravity Check is really tasty, Winter Ale was great as always, JO and ClassV available too. Oh and Lost in the Wood barleywine is really tasty too!
Yup. I think they started bottling it a few weeks ago. I remember trying it at Stone anniversary or something previously and I liked it, but this newest batch was waaay batter. For around 4% alc it's extremely flavorful and definitely deserves better than 85pts on BA ;P But maybe it's just me, liking the overall style of KRBC ipas.
I liked it. Nothing spectacular, but a solid IPA. Had only one taster along with all the other beers, so I can't really tell much more. I I think they mentioned that it should be brewed by the end of January.
The Coffee Stout is their 7th Anniversary beer. They just haven't brewed it in a while. I know there are kegs out locally so perhaps they may go down South. I'm surprised you didn't mention the Class X. Did you get a chance to try it?
Yes, too many to list. It's in a class of its own, I had it quite a few times and it's always as delicious. Btw, do you know which barrels are used for aging and for how long? As far as the coffee one goes, I saw it as an anniversary beer on untappd, but I wasn't sure it's the same beer. It sure is great and I'd love to get some bottles of it to age.
Gosh I hope to see more of the goods bottled once the expansion is done. I gotta head up and try the Coffee Stout and Think Tank, but @aquazr1 never invites me to go up
Headed up tomorrow afternoon. You're more than welcomed to join us @bnelson997. I can't wait until Shuttle Bunny bottles start hitting the shelves.
Not sure which barrels they use, I need to check on that. I do know that this batch is about six months in the barrel, which is about as early as they start pouring it. They only keg off one barrel at a time so the other barrels are still aging until needed.
They only use Heaven Hills barrels for the Class X. I believe he said it was a Kenyan coffee. On another note, the Think Tank name came from the fact that the beer is going to be made with different variations. Somewhat like the Noble Showers series but different in that sometimes the hops will be the same but the malt source may change.
Hey thanks @aquazr1 for the intel! I'm dreaming about that coffee stout right now...I should've grabbed a few growlers. Lol
