So my store just got in an Apricot, Kettle-soured IPA from Uinta brewing. Just wondering, has ANYONE else ever seen a kettle-soured IPA. This is my first time seeing one and at first impression, it definitely doesn't seem like something you'd commonly find on shelves.

I've seen dry-hopped sours and brett IPAs, but that is the only kettle-soured IPA I have seen thus far.

Don't think there are many who do it....there is an added step when kettle souring from my reading on the process....

    Impression? Good/bad?

I've actually seen quite a few sour ipas lately, my favorite one is Pfriem sour IPA but also the epic brewing one is pretty good and probably more accessible. this are basicly higher IBU well hopped kettle sours that brewers call IPAs for marketing purposes.either way its a good mix imho

If anyone is ever in Austin, check out Blue Owl. They do 100% kettle soured beers. Including a pale ale and a stout. All fantastic beers.

I love it when the brewers create new angles on beer making and the outcome ends up being unique and tasty. Then other brewers follow and we have a whole new thing going on in the beer making community on a wider scale. Haven't really encountered any hoppy sours yet but there are lots of excellent hoppy saisons out there that might have started the kick, then brewers transitioning into sour/hoppy may be the next practical step forward in evolution. I'm always on board for new and interesting.

The only one I've had was South Street Tongue Dropper and it's one of the worst craft beers I've ever had.

Blue Owl is amazing! Austin has some stellar breweries. JK, Pinthouse Pizza and Blue Owl are some of my favorites.

Grimm makes great dry-hopped sours, with and without fruit. Grimm actually has a dry-hopped sour with apricots called Rainbow Dome, though it's conditioned on oak so maybe not 100% kettle-soured. Lagunitas Aunt Sally is a dry-hopped sour ale. They aren't marketed as sour IPAs but they probably could be if it was an actual style. Maybe Uinta's Pit Stop is higher IBU than normal for a sour so they called it an IPA. It is interesting to see how the beer world evolves over time.

The Veil has done several kettle soured IPA's including a DIPA. Personally I enjoyed all of them to varying degrees.

I dig this one from Hermit Thrush... Expensive though @ $20 a four-pack.

Destihl has a newer addition to its Wild Sour can series that's dry-hopped, if that counts. It's not bad.
