Krawl Off Duval is definately the best. The co-owners aren't super-knowledgeable about the beer, but they're trying and they're excited about it. Laid back place. Happy to give you samples. Good selection of taps.
Somehow I missed Krawl when I was there a month ago. Guess I gotta go back. The Porch (on Duval St) has had a real nice selection of taps the last few times I've been down there. It's also a nice place to sit in the shade of the porch and watch all of the sun burnt tourists from the cruise ships stumble by on their way to get their Sloppy Joe's t-shirts and cheeseburgers at Margaritaville. Pretty much right next to The Porch is Kelly's, the only brewpub in Key West. Their beer isn't worth getting too excited about, but they do have nice outside seating and good wings.
Somehow I missed BOTH of those places when I was there. Probably because I was one of those sun-burnt tourists eating cheeseburgers and drinking margaritas - and I loved every minute of it!
The Porch and Krawl are the best. Like zekeman said Kelly's beer isn't all that great but their wings kick ass. The Southernmost Resort has a restaurant and bar on the beach with some good bottles available.
The last time my wife and I went to KW, we spent time at The Porch every day we were there. The bartenders/owners were really nice and laid back, and I got to talk beer with the locals. A former regional rep for Sierra Nevada even lives above the bar and was good for some conversation. The Krawl was okay, but it felt like I was hanging out at a dude's house with his buddies, and I didn't know any of them. The amount of taps was decent, but the options were not that impressive.
Bumping an old thread - my wife and I are headed to Key West on Saturday for 5 days. Outside of The Porch, which I already figured would be my go to, are there good places to grab sixers for the hotel room. I'm hoping like stuff CCB would be accessible. Thoughts? Do grocery stores have singles and allow mix and match?
check out a place called Shots & Giggles. It's on the corner of Ann St. and Greene St. one block east of Duval. It's a small craft beer/wine bar with both wine and craft beer six-packs for sale to carry out as well. I was impressed with the shop selection after coming up short at a lot of other places. The bar is tiny, i mean 6 bar stools small, but everyone was really nice and you could tell this was kind of a locals only place. The taps (when I was there) included things from Smuttynose, Boulder, Kona, and a few more (6-8 taps IIRC). There were a few couches in the back to lounge around on with a couple TVs as well. I don't recall seeing anything by CCB anywhere on the island. There is also a Walgreens right in the heart of the Duval strip that has a pretty good selection. When I was there they were advertising their craft beer selection on their storefront marquis sign. I was impressed, but you also pay more buying right on Duval St.
On your way into Key West at mile marker 15 is a place called Baby's Coffee that has a small but great beer selection. Last time I was there they had some nice stuff and the Key West beer that is made in Orlando or somewhere. Plus, the cuban coffee is great!
Any recent trips? How's the Green Parrot? I was there many years ago and liked it, but they didn't have any decent beer back then.
I went to Green Parrot when I was in Key West back in September (2013). They had Sweetwater 420 on tap and I think they also have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale bottles. Can't remember what else but it wasn't anything notable.
The places you need to check out are cork and stogie, sea dog tavern, krawl, world of beer, and the porch. Definitely make a stop at the restaurant store and check out bone Island brewing while you're here too. If you need any tips just shoot me a PM.
