Last night I purchased a bomber of King Henry at Rattle N Hum and another at Beer Authority. Needless to say, I had a fantastic evening, and I don't expect the bombers to last long.

Thanks man. I've been trying to trade for The King for a while now with absolutely no luck. Who would have thought that I could just walk into a bar in NYC and grab one tonight. Nice.

My question is how did they get them now after all this time?

Stockpiling. Or from that massive palette of cases that were still sitting at the brewery about 3 months ago.rar

Not stockpiling at the bar, maybe the distributor? Both bars got a case at the same time. Is it possible that Goose could have held cases at their brewery and then distributed those cases to NY without anyone knowing they were coming. I'm sure someone knows what happened?

Did you purchase them to carry out, or to drink on premises? I was at Beer Authority a couple weeks ago and saw KH on the bottle list, but when I asked about getting a bottle they told me they were out.

Pretty sure all the KH is gone at RnH, my buddy went last night and they told him it was the last bottle.

I would have paid that at a bar - Not terrible prices.

Few weeks back, a guy I know went to Blue Smoke near WTC Manhattan and was able to get split 3 bottles with a buddy and take one home (wasted I know). I truly believe that they'res more out there off the beaten path just waiting to be consumed.

I never did find out how they actually got them in after all this time, but I guess some things in life are just meant to remain a mystery.

5 days really isn't long enough to allow a deep mystery to truly unravel.....I'd give it another week, at least.

Ha. True. I reposted this on the Beer Talk but it got deleted as a duplicate thread. I know I am not the only one here that is curious how this has occured.

I'm sure you're not, but well....these things just tend to happen in a city like NY. How is it that I was able to just stroll into Spuyten Duyvil only a month ago and order a bottle of Fou Foune? Albeit at a bit of a markup, but still......

Bars do tend to hold back stock for whatever reasons they happen to choose (to spread out over time, to save for an event, etc) and even for reasons beyond their control ("late" distro deliveries, simply forgotten in the bar's cellar, etc).

Over-thinking this will probably drive you crazy. I would just take comfort in the possibility that any beer can pop up at just about any spot in NYC at any given time. Exciting, huh?

The likely answer - and I have no insider information whatsoever - is not very interesting. Beer Authority was in a state of being "2 weeks from opening" from late October of last year until it finally opened late this spring (April?). So they accepted their shipment of beer from Goose Island in early November. Then it sat in the basement until last week. They didn't bust out everything for the grand opening. They finally decided to open up this case or two and split it between the 2 bars.

Top Hops - another place that was delayed in opening - did the same thing, though not waiting as long. They didn't offer up KH when they opened but released it a while later at $30 a bottle. But this was still before King Henry became King Henry!!!! so it didn't get this attention this is getting.

Credit to RnH and Beer Authority for not charging an outrageous amount for the bottles.
