We will be in Kingsport for a wedding. Does anyone recommend a place that has good taps? We are from Oklahoma so would enjoy some more eastern beers.
Honestly, Kingsport doesn't really have a whole lot to offer. The best I can suggest would be either Biggies or Stir Fry. They each have a few taps with some regional beers such as Depot Street, Highland, and Terrapin. If time allows, head about 20 minutes down the road to Johnson City and visit the Libation Station for by far the best bottle selection in the area along with about 20 growler taps and Mellow Mushroom which has the best tap selection with numerous North Carolina breweries represented.
JPatrick, you should check ahead of time to see if the Kingsport Grocery Company is open again, and if so then that is the place you want to be. I saw an article or two that they were closing overwinter (3-story historical bldg, hard to heat) and planning to reopen in spring. I don't know if that has happened or when it will, but I've had a couple good nights in that place. Very comfortable, great food, and 2 bars with different taps. Rangerred, can you comment?
Kingsport Grocery Company closed in winter of 2009-10 and never reopened. The building is still sitting there empty with no plans to do anything with it as far as I know.
I am probably late with a recomendation; however, "Biggies" is now the go to place for craft beer in Kpt. with 35 beers on tap, and the best hamburger platter in the history of the world.
