Anyone been? Any good? Headed to the hills this weekend; any other spots worth checking out (that are not called Suarez or Sloop)?
I really dug it, they had a killer brett IPA when I went. Nice, clean space and a couple food options too. If you come up/down on 87 I'd make it a point to do Bacchus and Arrowood Outpost. Both about a mile off the exit and right near each other.
I heard about this place very recently, and their IG feed screams gentrification. I didn't realize Kingston could support a brewery that charges $28 for an oyster platter.
I mean, that's not expensive for oysters. And there is plenty of overlap in the "likes going to breweries" and "can and will pay $28 for a dozen oysters" circles on the venn diagram. They're nearly overlapping.
Oh I agree that someone who is willing to pay for craft beer can and will buy a plate of oysters. I was commenting more on how this place can even exist in Kingston, but I haven't been there in close to 10 years. Kingston is being billed as a "new Brooklyn" by developers ala Beacon, and this is testament to that.
I see this happening in Kingston to some degree already and it does have potential for growth and the gentrification that comes with that, but I think its distance from the city, being on the other side of the river, not on the metro north line, will make for slow progress (if one wants to think of it that way).
Honestly Kingston looks a LOT different than ten years ago. The main downtown area is real nice and has some terrific restaurants and stuff now. Rough Draft bar/bookstore is one of the coolest spots in all of the HV. The area that KS is in (like a mile away) is definitely rougher but it's fine. And I don't think Kingston will ever get to where Beacon/Hudson/Cold Spring are because of what tobelerone mentioned geographically and train-wise but I could see it continuing to blossom for sure. Get one great brewery in a town (way too early to put that on KS, but like I said, I think they're doing real good things) and the tourism and money will follow.
No disrespect, but shall I also mention their can offerings are twelve ounce tallboys? I automatically think White Claw.
Do you grocery shop/go to Target? I've never tried it but the shit is literally everywhere. The association is not just due to the sizing but that every one of their labels are all white.
I live in NJ. No alcohol in Target or Grocery Stores (mostly, and certainly the ones I go into). Haven't even really been in a liquor store recent since I buy most of my beer at breweries. I've certainly seen the packaging, and heard about the "shortage" over the summer, just haven't paid attention to them, really.
Agreed about there being a limit to how far the area can come. Without easy access to NYC, that area of the HV would need something like IBM coming back to the area to revitalize industry. I do want to check this place out, and Kingston as a whole. I'll make sure to stop by Rough Draft as well. I would love to know how much they charge for a 4 pack especially since it's 48 oz vs. 64 oz. It's a huge pet peeves of mine when breweries don't mention pricing on IG. Dude, how in the world did you miss the summer of White Claw? That shit was literally at every barbeque, birthday party, game day, and get-together I went to over the summer. I had to deal with so many people saying Hey Xerlic, you really like craft beer. Have a White Claw!! And I'd be like Some White Claw flavors aren't... Bad, but they're nowhere close to a good beer.
Like I said, I knew about it and what it was, I just didn't pay that much attention. I know my niece brought it up, but she knows better than to try to offer me one.... #grumpymiddleageddude I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones!
